Future of DynamicWind plugin

We are currently using the DynamicWind plugin in our project and are very happy with it. However, we are at a critical point in our planning phase where we need to decide whether to develop our own custom wind simulation system or rely fully on your plugin moving forward.

While browsing your UE6 branch, I noticed that you have added a DynamicWindGridSimulation, which seems to handle the simulation via Niagara systems. Could you please share a bit more insight into your plans and roadmap for this feature?

Specifically:

  1. What is the long-term visionfor the Niagara-based grid simulation in the upcoming UE6 release?
  2. What scope of features are you planning to cover with it?
  3. Roughly when do you expect this feature to reach a stable, production-ready state?

Any details you can provide will be immensely helpful for us to determine if we should invest time in building our own solution or wait for your upcoming updates.

Thank you.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reaching out. I have transferred the question to our SME for the dynamic wind plugin, who can better answer our plans for it. They should have an answer for you as soon as possible.

Hi, 5.9 will have a production ready simulated dynamic wind solution. It supports an external vector field volume that can be driven by Niagara as well as an analytical force model driven by components. UE6 has an experimental moving domain-style Niagara simulation. That particular voxel grid feature is still very experimental and we don’t have specific plans in mind for it yet.
