4.1 is out, any progress on Substance plugin for version ? Thx
Hi . I subscribed yesterday to unreal engine 4 and since I also own both substance designer and painter I wanted to download the plugin as well. Problem is, since I am totally new to the UE4 and I just wanted to study it for now, I already cancelled my subscription and I think is the reason I get a 404 error every time I try to go on the github repository to download the plugin. What can I do now? I do not want to pay 19 euros again since I payed just yesterday… is there some workaround?
Thanks for any help!
Cancel it immediately - super bad decision.
- You don’t get 4.3 update.
- You’ve lost access to github, so, if you have not downloaded version of engine - you can’t redownload it without active subscription
Try to create thread in Feedback section, devs are pretty nice, maybe they will help you

He should still have access to everything until his month is over.
If he is referring to the link above for the plugin that the user lloadead provided from MegaUpload that link is dead. There may be a link to it on Substance Designers website. I’m not sure since I do not use it.
is right about the access. If for example someone subscribed today and then cancelled immediately afterward they would have access to GitHub and the engine for one month. Anything released during that month would be a part of their subsription.
@Bernardo: You’re getting a 404 error if you’re on GitHub and have not created an account. You’ll need to setup a FREE account with GitHub then link that to your user profile on UnrealEngine.com.
Follow the instructions here to set it up.
Thank you!

Link Updated
Hi,
I just installed the Substance plugin for UE 4.4, but it doesn´t work. I am getting these messages:
msg1: Project modules are missing or out of date would you like to recompile them?
-> yes
msg2: Game code couldn’t be compiled. Continue trying to start anyway?
-> yes
Plugin ‘Substance’ failed to load because module ‘SubstanceCore’ does not appear to be compatible with the current version of the engine. The plugin may need to be recompiled.
(I copied the messages from Tia´s thread here: Adobe Support Community)
any idea what I can do to get thing running?
thanks for your help,
Hi,
You need source code at the moment to also compile project plugins. If you are starting from a project template use a c++ project such as the fps template
thanks a lot !

Just a note there is also something weird going on with a phantom 4.4.0 update that broke compatibility with the plugin as I had the same. If you update to the 4.4.1 preview you will find it suddenly works again as well.

+1 to , rather annoying that phantom-update on the weekend broke compatibility with my plugins…
I might try removing and re-downloading 4.4.0 later today, I don’t want to go with 4.4.1, as that will also break compatibility (until the new plugins are released)… but we’ll see.
I had the same problem, and I updated 4.4 again (so it still says 4.4.0 cause I canceled my subscription) and my substances are working again after I deleted and put in the newest substance plug-in. Not going to update it again just in case
Sry for necrobomb, but a question.
A buddy told me, that they charge a extra fee for texture plugin, if you use it in a commercial game?
When i pay the indie substance thing (painter / designer / Bitmap) over steam, have i to pay anything else, after buying their products, when using in a published game?
Best regards
Hi ,
We have licensing agreements for the authoring tools depending on some factors, but we have no royalties or payments for the UE4 plugin itself. The plugin is free with no royalties.
