FAB sales are a bit suspicious

So in November I earned about 100$ in fab but suddenly in December it’s 0 I even published another asset. In January only got 1 sale. I think the sales are not updating properly or my assets are not being reached. Anyone facing same issue?

Ye since fab launched i notice lot of sellers dont have their usual predictable sales as before i say.
Some of which can be read here from the latest post : Sale Report - Max Date is 21.12.2024

For me personally sep, oct,dec i had more than 100$ but november was extremely low.
Dec was with event holiday sales but for others even big sellers were the opposite.

There is still an issue with sales on 26 Dec that they are investigating: Updated 1/7/24 - Fab: List of Known Issues
We also don’t know if that affects some sellers or if that happened on another previous date as well.

I made only 1 sale this year too and it is worrying, am doing other side business as well since this will take a long time before fab get ue marketplace reputation if that can even happen ofc.
Most sellers are doing the same thing i believe or starting to think about doing other businesses to compensate.

Another reason can be Fab is getting flooded with ai content as mentioned here: Are you doing anything about all the theft and copyright infringment? - #58 by Krabworks , so it getting harder for client to reach us.

40% of my traffic from youtube analytics comes from orbital-market. That already tells how bad the search is from fab website.

Epic say that sales are up. Everyone else says they’re down…hmmm.

I suspect what’s actually happening is that sales are down for most legitimate artists/devs, but that sales of the AI-Generated nonsense is making up the difference. The market is absolutely flooded with literally thousands of listings for crappy AI-Generated art, and they’re being reviewed by an AI model.

Epic would see it as a net win, but what’s actually happening is that the market is “the dead internet”. Fake assets sold by fake artists, being reviewed and approved by fake staff.

:man_facepalming:

good grief, out of touch managers ad executives thinking AI is the answer to every problem

The numbers this month are disappointing, and the reason is clear. The absence of key features has made Fab less engaging than the previous marketplace, causing users to check it less frequently and, as a result, leading to fewer sales.

It also doesn’t help that when buyers filter their search to exclude AI-made products, they still encounter AI-generated items. This happens because many sellers do not mark their products as AI-made both 2d and also more and more 3d AI stuff when they submit them, and currently, there are no penalties for this. It’s just bad experience overall.

Speaking as a buyer, I would say that somehow Epic has managed to totally obscure the marketplace.

I used to be able to keep tabs on new stuff and re-find old things.

Now, the order of items changes over time and the search is pretty rubbish.

Also, everything that was copied during the move, still has the copy date, and not the original date to market on the product. So it’s pretty much impossible to know how old something actually is…

There still only one way to know the date is using Orbital Market, we can also view previous stored text reviews and even questions with their replies.

The site is kinda slow sometimes though, so it can be annoying and it just adds more friction for a buyer when using fab to do that amount of research before making a purchase.

Orbital is pretty good, but the search isn’t :-/

i’m not a seller, but i can give my point of view as a buyer.

with the new fab,

  1. there is no wish list (big loss)
  2. is not that easy to find anything in the fab website
  3. the new licenses model is a kind of copy of what i see in the daz3d market (not fiable, at least from my point of view)
  4. i’m not buying anything until fab gets more mature

You may try to use the following:
https://www.fab.com/channels/unreal-engine?sort_by=-publishedAt&is_ai_generated=0

instead of “standard” request to search for new assets. It will sort results by the date of publishing and thus new assets will not be appearing in the middle of the list and will not change their place.

Meh, doesn’t work

Also, it can’t work, because the submitted date on about 95% of the assets is the date they moved to FAB.

This is what I currently have

https://www.fab.com/channels/unreal-engine?sort_by=-createdAt&is_ai_generated=0&ui_filters=0

It’s totally bizarre. Even though my search comes up with slightly different items than yours. When I check the missing ones, they are all created/published today

This is what I mean, it randomly leaves things out for some reason…

Some assets were created much earlier than they published (due to longer review procedure or maybe author has decided to change something etc.). And when they finally get published they will appear not at the top of list (in case they’re sorted by createdAt), so if buyer checks the list once a day he could miss some assets that appear inbetween others. Also, when assets are imported in bunch from older store being it UE marketplace or Sketchfab they frequently have the same creation time and will appear in random order when sorted by createdAt.
Contrary to that, the published time is unique per asset (I didn’t check all :slightly_smiling_face:) and it not gonna change (but I’m not 100% sure here), so when you sort by ‘publishedAt’ timestamp newly published assets appear at the top and will never change their order.

There are also “updatedAt” and “lastUpdatedAt” timestamps in asset record, so one can track updated assets also. Well, I don’t know if it all works as intended thou

This method will not help with old assets from UE marketplace as they they were bulk imported and their initial creation and publishing times are gone and in case they didn’t track the import (correspondence between new GIUD and old name-based id of asset) they might be gone forever.

Great info!

I’ve switched to

https://www.fab.com/channels/unreal-engine?sort_by=-publishedAt&is_ai_generated=0&ui_filters=0

:star_struck:

It’s interesting to notice that the actual ‘sort by’ toggle on the interface uses the wrong date ( created, not published )

The problem of “FAB team” is that none of them actually uses their own site. Neither as seller nor as buyer. There are a lot of little changes that could be done in minutes if not seconds but greatly improve the UX of Fab. Still sellers are waiting for months for support to look into their problems with publishing while buyers cannot find assets they need.

But we have roadmap instead.

:sleepy:

In the two and a half months since launch, a single developer could easily have implemented most of missing features, but I guess in big companies like Epic, their “development process” gets in the way. It’s likely that even the smallest change on FAB requires approval from so many people that nothing ever gets done.

It is normal. you can not trust Fab at the moment.

this is the most depressing part

the lack of any effort whatsoever. Literally you are correct, one dev could have fixed many of these major issues with the time they’ve had since launch

Making a whole separate roadmap probably took as much time as implementing open-text reviews would have

just do the work

The ability to block particular vendors would also be great, especially in the last few days, with audio, that’s all I’m saying…
