Epic MegaJam! October 8-15th, 2015. THEME: STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

hmnn need to download Visual Express to package “blueprint only” project? (4.8.3) still lot of work I guess.

Not sure is VS Express is fully supported nowadays, Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition works well (don’t get VS2015 for 4.8 or even 4.9).

Behold

This is the best thing that I’ve seen all day lol

i agree with you bro i have an update on something new we built today from modeling in 3ds / maya sent back into unreal ill show you some of the materials im working with i got an character blueprint i would love to put it up for download so you guys can test it out also im putting up some of our built environment assets for download ill put the link on the forums once done with all of it its basically a package of
1 a weapon system
2 our own modeled modular sci fi pack/industrial pack
3 exterior pack
4 muzzle flash pack
5 particle simulation pack
6 SMART AI SYSTEM
7 photo realistic game optimized vehicle pack

I was going to but you cannot a demo record and play a demo at the same time nor can you play the game while a recording is playing. Someone would have to modify the demo system to allow for intractable play backs.

I programmed the entire thing in c++ then just made blueprint-able nodes to run that c++ functionality. It basically uses a circular buffer that records a frame when a timer event is set on delta. Playback is similar, plays a playback frame when timer changes with delta.

You’re welcome, I wish more would have posted by now, im eager to see what has!!!

what do you think

Did you send us a PM on it?

Took a few days off my project and think I am in as well (as a one person team), been working on gameplay mechanics since Saturday. To summarise the intent it is a sort of a mash up between Amnesia, Slenderman and a teleportation mechanic not too dissimilar from Bullet Train set in a claustrophobic space station. It is designed firstly for VR, but works as a regular game as well as that is what it should be judged as I guess.

I have the basic gameplay mechanics down, though I still want to make an actual behaviour tree for the bad guy instead of the hack I am running now. After that it is time for sound and visuals and hopefully some extra tweaking as well. So no screenshots just yet.

Any of yous trying for that art award can give up now. Behold:

JoeWintergreen : my god… that is . I dont think my game will come close to that amount of !!!

Two Big “giant” thumbs up :stuck_out_tongue:

struggling with packaged game issues. Tried to blueprint for coop game and it’s working in editor but not in packaged game. Need to add lot of print strings to figure this out  So my game will have less features. Guys - package your game and check if everything is working as intended.

Hope this is fixed in 4.9 really frustrating now

It’s difficult, but I have to say that I’m unfortunately unable to finish a game for submission, due to school, work and a few other things (among those is Star Citizen which I finally bought because of the Squadron 42 intro trailer, you Roberts :p). Despite that the purpose of a game jam is not to win prizes, I still feel disappointed I can’t be a part of it.

However, there is a bright side. During the last few days, I have learned a great many things about the engine. Although the project is nowhere near functional, I will still try to make it at least somewhat playable. Also, this has given me enough motivation to continue working on my own project in the engine.

This was my first ever game jam, so it doesn’t surprise me that I couldn’t really handle it, but this time, I at least tried. So, a thank you to Epic Games, and of course else, for this amazing community, and maybe till next time!

PS: for the record, my team name is “Final Frontier Entertainment”

Never thought I’d make a functional racing game in less than a week, but I am.

Spline-based track, working AI, proper race position logic, a win condition, and two selectable vehicles. I’m excited!

Now it’s time to make it a bit more appealing to the eyes.

So my project is not so literally… My idea is to create a dark ambience with unknown things… Once you discover them using different techniques, you will find out what they actually are… Isaac Newton said something like that, in his words, he said he only can do his investigations because of others who discovered things earlier - he is standing in the shoulders of them. So if you get to know something, you can work with it in the future, so you’re standing on your own shoulders… Enough philosophy  hope youll like my game

nice, that video reminds me of this comercial:

Still not confident I chose the theme properly based on “On the shoulders of Giants” book](On the Shoulders of Giants (book) - Wikipedia) (compilation of writings from greatest astronomers and physicists of our time)
