Epic MegaJam! October 8-15th, 2015. THEME: STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

Okay Thank you

I think they were just concerned that the assets (not the general idea of the game) were created outside the Jam time.

Found some more inspiration

Yeah I believe they took issue with having premade assets. You are allowed to use them but your supposed to specify that they are in fact made before hand and opt out of the graphics category.

he did also say that we can use our existing work as a opportunity to create something …and even through the fact he mentioned that does not mean anyone should start 2 weeks before like im hearing to verify everything you are going to see in the game jam was created on the 9th of October…People think we are just for the game jam when in reality we are a big studio thats producing games/movies/music
one thing alot of the guys seem to forgot is that we are just giving a sneak peek of our upcoming game…
now for the gamejam we produced something that you guys will be able to test on so this thing where people seem to believe we started before the 8th is false we should enjoy this competition instead of turning it into a situation where anyone has to look like cheats if anyone did cheat they should be kicked out i know those rules and i live by those rules imagine how i feel you guys are being extremely unfair its not a very nice welcoming for people to make so many false accusations on people who joined unreal 4 to make the next gen video games instead of worrying about this lets talk about how talented our team is to pull these things off in 72 hours lets talk about your gamejam what is it you guys are bringing to unreal i hope i verified this cause its starting to get annoying im putting more focus on verifying that im not a cheat cant believe our team would be in this situation work to hard have to much passion and we are humbled people thank you for making sure we know the rules we understand you guys dont want anything like disqualification to happen to us ill send the update on my gamejam wish you the best guys

k, but, Gabriel9007, you lost me about half way thru that continuously running paragraph, my eyes can’t focus that long anymore. brains not functioning too well either, lol

Zetheros - absolutely wonderful work, nothing more to say about that, nice!
(altho the back reminds me of crab legs but I luv crabbie cakes, lol)(good work)

**AshesBurnBlack **- great model!

I see, maybe I’ll submit ours earlier to have people try it out first, it’s a fun 2-4 player game =p

Btw does anyone know how we should package our game? Shipping 32bit?

I know right?? Fallen angels look hella tasty without feathers :0

If that’s the case than it’ll all good =D

The more games the better! See you on the stream!

Time Travel Baby.
(Amazing that you can with out any previous knowledge, program a time machine in ue4 in under 48 hours !!!)

I love this game jam. Can’t wait to see what other people have.

WOW, thats … I wonder how you did the recording, would be a very complex thing tho. Maybe you used the UE4 Replay feature for that?

** **im sorry, I was just a bit unclarifying what you did and what you did earlier, but best wishes from .

You totally reuploaded that video after getting called out, that’s sad… No reason to cheat.

Thanks for sharing with us. About two day’s left now. Lets see what else people have so far!

While your thoughts behind it can be whatever you say they are, I am not really sure the reaction you were expecting after posting a video with time put into the editing and a history of development in previous videos.
You gave no indication of creating a game with these assets, you simply posted up a video and a “we are team” post.
Literally all anyone had to go by was that information. My reaction was the same “wtf is this guy on” reaction as seems to be echoed elsewhere.

It would be cool to see what your team has done for the game jam, not so much a glitzy edited trailer.

As a one man team, its hard for me to deal with the art, so instead of that im modifying some assets (acquaried from market place), is this gonna work as a valid entry? Surely im not aiming for the best graphics award, but instead the fun awards, thanks for reply.

you will see you will play and you will like it im not sure what were on lol all i know is we just got talent in the art industry im sure you do too thank you best wishes for you and your game jam

You should be fine man but the winners usually make their own assets. You don’t have to go all out though. I mean look at the last winner. A well deserved win by the way but with only a few assets, a one man team (I believe), and 3 days on the clock.

I think there may be a small language barrier . I think people seem be annoyed because following sentence means (probably for most people who read that) that you claim to have started working only 2 days ago for this game:

This obviously isn’t the case as you already have a work in progress thread about the game:
https://forums.unrealengine/showthread.php?84717-Escape-the-Asylum

Also, I’m not talking from others behalf, but I’m pretty sure that game jams are not the right place to advertise your existing product. If you want to give a demo of the gameplay, you could provide that in your WIP-thread instead

That being said, just to make things clear, posted earlier this:

So technically, things could be just fine although I’d think that statement was about more of using your existing artwork etc for the game jam and not about extending existing game as that’s not really what game jams are about. I don’t think anyone is trying to be mean so don’t worry about that  I wish the best of luck on your project myself! All in all, I think the negative response you’ve gotten has only been because people have understood that you’ve claimed to start working on the game 2 days ago, that’s probably all there is to it.

As a side note, I personally think mixing prizes for event like game jam with such vague rules and lack of their enforcement (some art competitions expect to post wip screenshots during the event) is one reason why some people have gotten nervous about the competing entries as it would be so easy to cheat and get into position to compete for the top entries. And this certainly shouldn’t be what game jams are about at all as instead of competition, we should be supporting each others.

Do whatever works, man. I’m building my game entirely out of starter content and amateurish scribbling on a Watcom tablet, and I’m going to be pretty proud to hit the submit button. If I get the bloody thing done in time.

Remaining Tasklist:

*Build Level 3, entirely. I’ve barely started on it. (and it’s the most technically difficult level to build, in terms of design and coding)
*Tune the difficulty across the entire game

Bonus tasks:

  • Simple save game
  • UMG animations on the menus
  • Better particle .
  • More scribbled decorations for the background
