Does anyone know why the foliage always flickering in ue5?

All the foliage will have a crazy flickering on my pc. I tried it with both version 5.2 and 5.3,they all have the same problem. It is look like some shadow error.I tried to disable wpo, disable nanite, disable Lumen, disable cast shadow, change anti method and none of them worked.
I didn’t enable the ray tracing. Even kept flickering it unlit view mode. I tried to download and view it the Electric Dreams demo, also has foliage flickering.
When I enable dlss, all the flickering were gone.
Does anyone know of a solution?

foliage

The mesh settings also matter, as well as the main directional light. Try to disable shadows to see if that is the cause, and use other shadow casting methods.

  • I tried to disable cast shadow, but it didn’t work.I also tried to switch between shadow map and virtual shadow map, again to no avail.I post the video below. The project is Electric Dreams, I just turned off the hardware ray tracing in the project settings, and in this project, all the foliage in the scene still flickered like crazy.

have you found solution?

So far there is no solution

Hi, I have the same problem, but not only with foliage.

I was looking for a solution to this problem and found the reason, it might be a UE5 bug, but if you switch the Skylight actor mode to Stationary, the problem should go away.

UE5 dynamically generates ambience because of this the shadows flicker. I submitted a report with this problem on the Unreal engine website

didn’t fix for me

Try to use this console commands:

r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.ScreenTraces.HZBTraversal 0

If this doesn’t work, try this:

r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.Temporal.DistanceThreshold

And if it actually doesn’t work, try to change this option on skylight actor:
(SkyLight > Distance Field Ambient Occlison > Min Occlusion = 1)

tried all 3 nothing changed(if you want detailed info about my problem i posted it)

Try to remove it from the lumen scene. Disable visible to raytracing on the actor. Or switch it to a subsurface material.

i already did all 3 disabled lumen turned off material, i don’t have raytracing enabled and i tried switching to subsurface (check my post to see what i already tried)

I’m getting a very similar issue with smaller foliage in the scene flickering with different shadow renders between frames.

This only occurs when I render path traced and is visible in the viewport when viewing in path traced view. If I switch to lit it is fine.

This all started when I added a few more lights into the scene. All levels are built and the only error the log returns is that the water mesh should be set to non dynamic lighting.

[For everyone, watch this video, it worked for me, it’s great.]

Hi, could you check my forum with the flickering shadows problem in UE5 please? This problem is in Distance field AO, I’ve had several versions in a row to solve this problem but never found a solution. The forum is called “Problem with flickering shadows in Unreal Engine 5 when using global illumination not in Lumen mode”

I already wrote a bug report to epic games and did some research, as I realized this problem occurs with many other people Topic
