Depth of Field Stepping Bug

Does anyone know how to fix this depth of field stepping?
It got very bad in 5.6 and did not get fixed in 5.7. It is making doing many cinematic shots impossible in engine.

Possible Fixes / Workarounds:

  1. Switch DOF Method
  • In your Post Process Volume, try changing
    Depth of Field MethodCircle DOF (instead of Bokeh or Gaussian).
    Circle DOF gives smoother transitions and avoids temporal stepping in most cases.
  1. Adjust Focus Settings
  • Set Focal Region to a slightly larger value (e.g., 200–500) and
    lower Depth Blur Radius slightly.
    This helps reduce visible stepping in the transition zone
