In the static mesh editor there’s the window to apply default instanced settings for use with the foliage tool. However after setting them up and dragging them into the foliage mesh window for painting, the default instanced settings do not apply. I could not find any other topics on this and cannot see any other reason for it not to work which is why I am assuming it may be a bug.
What I want:
What I am getting
In this case I wanted different sizes from 1-3 but it isn’t updated to the settings I have made in the static mesh window.
Yeah that button works correctly when I save out settings directly from the foliage tool and is what I am doing right now to get by.
I tried with just the static mesh selected so it may use the settings I have already applied in the static mesh details window but that didn’t seem to work either.
Here is my folder with my saved out settings for foliage.
While this method is alright I prefer actually automatically loading my default settings so I don’t have to perform 2 clicks in a different menu each time I import a mesh.
Let me know If I am not being clear enough.
Thanks
I am currently in the process of testing this issue in our main branch to verify this as a bug. I was able to reproduce what you are reporting and wanted to thank you for providing me with the requested information. I will return here once I have reported the bug and with any additional information I discover.
So after attempting to test this in our Main branch, the option to apply the Default Foliage Settings within the Static Mesh editor have been removed. I am assuming since it has caused discrepancies between the Foliage tool. This will now be controlled through the Foliage Mode exclusively so there will be no communication issues when applying foliage instance settings. If you have any questions or need additional assistance please let us know.
