ummmm, we need more information. What type of lighting setup have you got?
Hey @darthgrayter!
From what you provided, none of your images look out of the ordinary. Could you explain more about the end result you are looking for?
And as @Aazmatazz stated, we are going to need to know more about the lighting setup in your level as well. If you could share what light sources you currently have and placement that would be a big help.
Any additional information or specifics you can provide may be a big help in solving your problem!
Definitely need some light
Sure! So in the first set of “dark” spaceship images, I feel like in-game, the mesh loses all of its detail unless the light directly hits the metallic part. At least, in a way unlike the gray box I put for comparison.
I’m using one directional light with a rotation of (Pitch=-60.779152,Yaw=-14.988161,Roll=25.555014) and an intensity of 3 lux and a basic sky light.
try to play with the brightness of light sources and you will understand what you are missing
So, I did that, and I just end up turning the gray box completely white before I get details on the spaceship.
You know what, this is a long shot BUT…
Try adding a bit of emissive to your ships material. Only a small amount (Maybe 0.2) and see if that brightens up the materials on the ship.
Ill admit its a hacky workaround because the correct lighting set up should alleivate the dark materials issue, but if in doubt get the emissives out.
Yes. One option is to lighten the texture.
In my project, I did this. First, I set the lighting to suit me. Then I drew meshes under this light
Only in my case I turned down the brightness))
I don’t think this is an option. Experiments show that even with low self-glow, the mesh loses volume and looks flat. Of course, with straight arms, you can draw a beautiful mask for self-glow, and then it will be OK. It’s hard enough.
Also, if you have this main character, you can hang a lamp to his pawn, he will also give glare.
But if there are a lot of them, then this is not an option.
Hey @darthgrayter,
So there are a few more things we can try here:
Hopefully, one of the above options is what you are needing!
