After assembling my characters from Metahuman Creator in 5.6.1, my characters face skin has dark patches on them. All of them. Is this a substrate issue? What’s causing this? Opening the parent material does not have any errors.
Hello there @Teriander!
Checking around the community, there have been a few cases of this problem. And indeed, the cause is usually tied to substrate. In order to resolve the issue, we can try the following:
- First, go to Project Settings > Rendering and confirm “Substrate Materials (beta)” is enabled. Restart UE, and let shaders fully recompile.
- Next, please make sure “Virtual Texture Support” and “Virtual Texture Lightmaps” are enabled as well.
- If the issue persists, clear the shader cache, via deleting folder “DerivedDataCache” from your project directorty, then recompile.
- You can also test disabling all Metahuman plugins, then re-enable the creator only, followed by its dependencies in another restart.
For more details, please check the thread below:
Hello, I have the same issue, i tried everything you told previously and nothing has worked for me.
Someone help please ?
These patches seem to be baked into the texture itself when Substrate is on. You can turn Substrate off for the assembly. If turning off Substrate is not an option as it was for us. You can assemble the Metahuman in another project without Substrate and then migrate it to your main project.
Hello again!
There’s another method to try, from another thread, please test it for your scenario:
This solution worked for me. Turning off Substrate, restart editor, execute “Assembly” in metahuman (issue is fixed at this point), turn back on Substrate, restart editor, all is well.
I hope they fix this in a future path. Clearly a 5.6.1 issue.
