i am a tourist when it comes to engines but it seems to me that amazon jumped on the crytek tech to have a way into VR.
nobody knows how big VR will become and amazon wants a piece of it most def. not sure its after catering to indies but what do i know.
Will Amazon get any updates from Cryengine in the future? Or are they always going to be lacking behind? I don’t see the point of going with Lumberwhatever is called when you can just use Cryengine.

Again, ease of use (Full .FBX support, native UI, allegorithmic integration, platform support etc.) there are many reasons to use Lumberyard over CryEngine… A few shiny graphics upgrades and some rendering tweaks doesn’t make it better.
No they have branched off on their own path.

LY is a fork of CryEngine 3.8.1. From this point on LY is going its own way. As a LY-Dev said:
[]
Lumberyard has forked from CryEngine, and the two will diverge heavily over time. We’ve built a team of industry all-stars to work on Lumberyard and its various connections into the cloud.
[/]
It will not stay “behind” CryEngine. Overtime it will be a different engine with a different set of features.
I switched from Cryengine to UE4 a little over a year ago. If they really want people to use their engine they need to keep their documentation concise and up to date, and work on community support, especially for new users. The difference as a new user between Cryengine and UE4 is night and day. Here’s hoping they work on that so that they can grow and indie devs can have more options to choose from. It’s a great time to be in game development, folks.

Nice trolling, but please leave the personal attacks and try to actually ‘employ’ your forum trick.

sigh…was it really a personal attack…did you not see the smiley faces…i couldn’t have really put it in a nicer way.
I give up you misery bum, carry on “avoiding this community” whilst simultaneously replying to nearly every post on this thread.
and your mums a troll.

In my opinion these forums should have age restriction, unless its fine with the moderators (proves my first post in this thread)

Both Cryengine and Lumberyard will never get the audience expected simply because they are still thinking with old school mentality. Epic has the greatest engine not because is the highest fidelity (which could arguably be) or the strongest community support which it does, because of Blueprint. Until they get the head out of the clouds it would remain a black box for coders and artist will steer 180. Is simply kryptonite for artist and a pain the *** for coders.

Now that Crytek has released CryEngine V with full source code for free (or pay whatever amount you like, which can be set to 0) and 0 royalties, I think a lot of people might actually turn their heads to CryEngine.
[=;495335]
Downloading the engine now… so far, their launcher is a mess as well as the sign up process and the marketplace. The Marketplace won’t allow me to change my information and it thinks I’m in Germany. The Launcher is pretty buggy as well.
[/]
Imho, Epic’s launcher is not better. For example, my home country is Ukraine, I registered unreal account couple of years ago, then received 30$ free for Marketplace purchases. And after recent launcher update boom - I have russian rubles instead of USD. I guess guys @ Epic think all Eastern European countries use russian ruble and not their local currency. Nowadays I’m living in NL so I tried to switch country and received nice warning that switching my country will zero my balance. Wow.
Hi
We encourage open discussion on the forums. However, we will not tolerate insults or personal attacks from anyone in the community. Please take a look at our rules and code of conduct, specifically:
“[02] Maintain a high level of professionalism. Be respectful to other members, and Epic Staff! It is our goal to create a clean forum for the discussion of Unreal Engine. Cursing, swearing, personal attacks or retaliations are not welcome here and will not be tolerated. Trolling, harassment, racist or threatening comments, obscene material or other intentionally annoying behavior is also unacceptable.”
Let’s keep the conversation on topic and not devolve to personal attacks and insults, that isn’t helpful and just brings down the quality of the discussion.

From my point of view the “Pay what you want” thing is just a bait. First you need to make and publish a game until you can benefit from 0 royalties. Until then, it’s a loooong way. You should use an engine which helps you most to master your work.
Keep the discussion civil, people. There is no problem to do a thread talking about the cryengine news, but if it atracts trolls it will have to be closed, and i wouldnt like it.
I think you’re a bit late to the party in regards to the quality of discussion with various sarcastic rude comments like “cool story bro” in response to other users posts, maybe you should have said that about 50 posts ago instead of letting people get away with being rude to the point where they wind other users up into reacting.
I knew I’d get in trouble so fair enough I’ll take the hit but something needed to be said as obviously no moderators were going to do anything about it.
anyway enough from me I’ve made my point.

There is no need for age restriction. You folks should instead chill, or get a beer (It was St. Patricks day yesterday).
Personally I have seen those holy wars since atari 800 vs commodore 64 vs sinclair spectrum, all that arguing here and getting offended because somebody else has different opinion or offended your fanboy choice of engine is just silly.
Does even anybody care which platform won that war back then, or what it was really about?
My 2 cents about this : we need competition, and we should look at the facts.
Remember UDK ? Or before that ? Epic Games has come a great way since that time. They’ve opened up, they’ve taken a wildly different stance on indie gaming, and they’re not just catering to the big-name studios anymore. Unity is probably why and no matter how we feel about the technical capabilities of Unity and Unreal Engine, we should be thankful that this has happened the way it did. CryEngine, today, is arguably in bad shape, it’s pretty much like UDK was in 2010 - a very good rendering system brought low by bad tools and a lack of flexibility. UE4 is so incredibly much better than UDK was, it’s easy to forget how painful it was to write code with UDK, how limited Kismet was, how horrendous it was to ship something.
On the other hand, CryEngine is (arguably) unmatched when it comes to exterior settings, and I wish Epic Games was able to give us some of that quality. UE4’s TXAA has been taking fire for years now, the reflections still need some love, the engine stability is sometimes debatable as well. The pics TK-Master linked page 3 were really beautiful and it’s hard to deny that you’d be hard pressed to recreate them in UE4 with the same level of quality.
So yeah. Be fact-based, compare technologies with an open mind, and hope for the best.

Hi everybody!
I don’t mean to interrupt, just wanted to chime in real fast. We love that people are passionate and care about the state of the industry, it really keeps us motivated as well and gives us a to hear from a lot of different perspectives. I would never want you to feel stifled on our forums from having deep discussions or giving Epic your critical feedback. We’re all here to improve the way that games are made and having these kinds of dialog are key to that growth.
That being said, the more professionally it can be discussed, the better. Please refrain from personal attacks and intentionally antagonizing others.
That’s all. Thanks!

Oh wow, didn’t know that, thanks for posting this info. Do you mind explaining how’s your balance situation now? Is it zero already or is it still in rubles?

It’s in rubles. With the latest site update country change is blocked on frontend. But this block on frontend is VERY stupid (just disabled added to that field) because if you remove disabled from that element, it will follow the flow which was there before (show warning popup etc). It looks like this:
Also I want to read license agreement again to see if what they did is actually legal.
