creating an object that is lit by spotlight, but doesn't cast a shadow

Still fairly new to UE. I’m using it as a modeler to create virtual sets for Tricaster.

Is there a way to exclude a specific object from the shadow casting of a spotlight?

I want the object to be lit from above by the spotlight, but not cast a shadow from that light. But I want that spotlight to cast shadows from all other objects. Is that possible?

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply ClockworkOcean, but that won’t accomplish what I’m trying to do.

I’ve got a point light underneath that needs to be blocked by the fixture(sconce?). If turn off “cast shadow” then that point light passes through it. I need the point light to be blocked by the fixture.

I was hoping there was some way to tell a spotlight to cast shadows on everything it touches - except for this one specific object.

My work around for now is to replace the point light with a spotlight.

Doesn’t look exactly the way I want it, but I guess I can live with it.

Would still like to know if what I’m asking is possible!..?

Ah, no that’s not possible

Well… It aughta be!

Ok then. Moving on.

Thanks for replying!

The light not getting through to the underside is what we call a shadow

Indeed.

I just want to tell the spotlight - “this particular object accepts your light, but doesn’t cast a shadow.”

The shadow from the point light is 100% fine and is what I want.

I don’t want the shadow from the spotlight above, just want the spotlight to light the top of the fixture.

In real life, I think the light from the fixture would negate any shadow coming from a distant light from above, hence my desire to get rid of the bottom shadow.

You can tell objects not to cast a shadow, and lights not to cast a shadow. But you can’t have an opt-in/opt-out list

I see.

I think It would be great feature for UE to add at some point.
