Compiling Shaders makes engine unusable

All versions of engine 4+ compile shaders indefinitely or complete the task only then start again after any minimum change.
From our research this is a known issue for at least 2 years now that remains largely unfixed. Tutorials, videos, forums, and emails to other users have not provided any solution.
We need a real time pipeline and cannot implement Unreal engine for any project if every change takes hours to complete.

The second issue is that editing materials takes very long to update even on a maxed out RTX system. Clicking “realtime” does nothing to speed up previews.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can confirm that it is so on 4.24 p1.

No problems until 4.23.1 for us (till 4.1) including RTX support. Not tried 4.24 previews yet. (no problem including also changing the shaders and recompiling them). Maybe a disk storage problem ? (no space for derivateddatacache ? try to change the place for it, by default it is on C: which can be a problem). Check in editor or project settings for changing path.
