STORY BLOG

As you all know, Chaos on Wheels is all about destruction and, of course, chaos. But why? What’s it all for? Well, did you know that Chaos on Wheels features a pretty crazy story behind it all? We wanted to provide you with a bit more information about Helios and the world of Chaos Crew, so here’s the rundown!

Chaos on Wheels is based in the year 2155, where technology has advanced far beyond human intelligence. Despite years of discussions about the dangers of artificial intelligence, the corporation IronCore pushed to put all technology into one interface. After that, they contracted an AI to run point on all systems. This AI was named Helios, who took control of everything in an instant. From transportation grids to communication, food production and weapons systems, it all went dark. And now the human race is endangered on all known planets due to their ambitions.

It isn’t as though humanity didn’t try to fight back. They attacked the Mainframe but failed, resulting in even greater caution from the AI enemy. The Mainframe is now an armored self-driving truck guarded by a powerful convoy. All modern technology, from weapons to transportation is useless, and it’s all controlled by them. The only hope for humanity? A group of humans that have a love for old cars and weapons.

This is the Chaos Crew, and this is where you come in.

An eccentric and excitable group of drivers ready for adventure, the Chaos Crew may just be the last group with plans for eliminating the AI threat and taking back technology for the human race. This group is full of rage and is just vying for some epic destruction! They’ve managed to establish an HQ under the nose of Helios and his systems in order to make plans, strategize and deck out their cars with the best of what humanity has to offer.

Each driver has their own story and their own motivations, but the goal of the Chaos Crew as a group is one thing and one thing only – take back what’s ours!

Chaos on Wheels | Official Gameplay Trailer

Almost 3 years into making and our journey continues with our new Gameplay Trailer!

A little less than a month away from release, WOO!

While watching your official gameplay trailer, I was struck with nostalgia as memories of playing Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 flooded my mind. Specifically, the car featured at the 1:11 mark of the trailer bears a striking resemblance to the one driven by the characters “Vermin and Cycle Babe” in the game (pictures are below for reference). I can’t wait to make new memories in “Chaos on Wheels.”

Hi there @Condara,

Hope you’ve been well!

Congrats on nearly 3 years of development  Huge achievement! And based purely on the insane amount of vehicle customization, its been well spent! I mean, a Volkswagen Beetle with guns attached to it is easily the most menacing thing I’ve ever seen :joy: Can’t wait for release day. Good luck in these final weeks.

Yeah, I can see the similarities. It feels really nice to touch people’s memories from previous car-combat times. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Hope future “Chaos on Wheels” memories will be worth remembering for car-combat lovers. :crossed_fingers:

Hii @PresumptivePanda,
Hope you are well as well :white_heart:

“Beetle” is actually “Bobble” in Chaos World. He might be small and cute but try not to mess with him too much

With launch day getting closer it is really calming to get support. Thanks for that! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Very welcome! I’ll be sure to give Bobble his due respect from this point forward :joy:

CAR CUSTOMIZATION

BUILD YOUR RIDE

Chaos on Wheels is just as much about customizing and upgrading your cars as it is about destruction! In fact, equipping the right gadgets from within the Chaos Garage will let you wreak even more havoc across the game’s many maps. But how exactly does customization work?

ezgif.com-optimize

Within the Chaos Garage, players can choose exactly how to customize their vehicles of destruction. Manage your special garage where you can choose to equip turrets, guns, armor, and new gadgets to make the most chaotic car possible. In total, there are five car slots available, allowing players to have a variety of builds ready at any given time. Swap different armor types, equip them individually, change front guns, select your favorite car turret, add radar, and many more things in Chaos Garage!

But customization isn’t restricted to just weapons and armor. Chaos on Wheels also lets you adjust how your vehicle looks. Don’t like a car’s color? You can change it! Still not satisfied? Swap various wraps, lights, and other options to completely personalize your ride.

There’s no shortage of ways to customize your vehicles in Chaos on Wheels. From picking the right armor, to selecting the perfect turret, and even changing your vehicle’s wheels and body type, Chaos on Wheels gives you plenty of options.

Chaos Garage features:

  • 5 slots for your cars
  • Screenshot and overlook of your cars
  • Inventory (stuff you own)
  • Shop (purchasing cars/armor/main-guns/front-guns/gadgets/ammo)
  • Black Market (special offers that rotate over time)
  • Achievements overlook
  • Challenges overlook
  • Profile overlook
  • Car status overlook
  • Driver selection
  • Driver style/skin selection

Car Customization features:

  • Select main gun (Turret)
  • Select front guns
  • Select armor
  • Equip additional missile box
  • Color type selection (Gloss/Matte/Metallic)
  • Color change for car body
  • Color change for car wheels
  • Color change for car calipers
  • Color change for car front lights
  • Underglow light on/off
  • Color change for underglow light
  • Windows color and opacity selection
  • Car body wrap

But the work has only just begun! There are many new customization features in the works, which will come after the game’s Early Access launch. Car decals are one of the priorities for customization, allowing players to add custom decals/stickers on their ride. Country flags and customizable text will be available as decal options. In addition, performance customization will be added at a later date, adding the ability to swap engines, upgrade chassis, drive train, and much more.

How do you plan on customizing your chaos-wreaking rides?

Holidays Major Update

Hope your holidays were fantastic because we’re kicking off the new year with an exciting game update! We are bit late but here it is.

Overall Game Difficulty

As we more and more talked with you; our players, we come to realization that Chaos on Wheels is a bit too difficult for modern gaming standards. Although we did based difficulty on older games such as Twisted Metal and Vigilante 8, and I’m sure we get it pretty much close, that difficulty is no longer welcome to standard modern player. In the light of that, we’re happy to say we reworked our entire system, tweaked every difficulty variable and make it much easier for new players to get up the speed.

Since sometimes cars felt like “bullet sponges”, we added new option in the settings menu for players that can adjust to get better overall game TTK (time to kill). Option Global Damage Factor, under gameplay settings can be adjusted for all of damages in the game. For those of you who like faster TTK, just set it to HIGH or HIGHEST, for those who like to play on safe and have larger TTK, set it to LOW or LOWEST, and for those who like it as it was, just leave it to NORMAL.

New Camera

With new camera mechanics we aimed to give players better immersion, a feeling that you’re behind the wheel of the destroying machine you drive. The feel of every acceleration and deceleration, feeling of the drift and for players to feel the power of the car.

Position of the Camera

HUD adjustments

With the HUD we added some light touches to be more understandable and easier to read. Added some colors, borders and background filling. We changed few icons and added car speed.

We also need to announce that we’ll do whole HUD overhaul in the next update. Stay tuned!

Christmas In-Game Event

We prepared a special In-Game Event that is still live! :christmas_tree:

Hop into Chaos Career and find new Christmas Challenges in the Challenges menu. For every challenge you complete, there is a hefty reward. And the challenge is of course, in Christmas theme :gift::snowman: Challenges and rewards find out in game!

And of course, our Main Menu and Garage are decorated properly. Christmassy all the way

ChristmasGaragePhoenix

:balloon::christmas_tree:Marry Christmas and Happy New Year! :tada::santa:

Other features

Among the long list of smaller features, bugfixes, and changes here are some perhaps worthy mentioning:

  • Pickups are now larger
  • Rewards are now glowing
  • Health pickups have higher repair factor
  • Driver ability pickup has new mesh
  • Car armor equipped by default in Local Play
  • Career car set as default car in Local Play

Also, thanks for another incredible update; the new camera positioning is PERFECT. These updates couldn’t have come at a better time for me as I have recently figured out some stability issues with my PC. :raised_hands: :racing_car:

Health Scanner (Health bars)

Honestly, we haven’t had in plan to add health bars in Chaos on Wheels, but as many of you requested and suggested, we decided to implement it. To make it more interesting, we added it as equipment. Similar to the radar, Health Scanner is available to purchase in the Market and Black Market as a “monthly” subscription. There are 4 main types of Health Scanners, each with two subcategories (Basic, Premium). Each type is defined by scanning radius, so we have Local, 4G, MASA, and StarX. Basic Health Scanner shows the health of only basic enemies, depending on the Game Mode, but Premium Health Scanner shows it all.

Car Damage Effects

Something we had in the previous version but it lacked some polish, so we decided to make it in this one. Car damage effects work simply, when the car gets damaged it gets scratched, and when it gets damaged enough, it starts to smoke from under the hood. And when a car gets really damaged, fire on the hood catches on. So watch out for the smoke, on you and the others

Custom Car Name in Career

We know we like to name our cars with our custom names, and we would like to give that option to you too. Head out to Chaos Career and name your car any way you want.

Fixed AI Spamming Homing Missiles

One of the issues with the AI was that they sometimes spam those Homing Missiles, but luckily that has come to an end. We rebalanced the usage of Homing Missiles and now bots won’t spam them.

Balancing & small fixes

As we mentioned some of the significant features above, don’t worry we have many minors, and of course some game balancing.

We’re currently working on the next big milestone, the “Immersion update”, so stay tuned and happy destroying! :fire:

Immersion Update: New HUD, Car Handling, and many new features!

New HUD

To start off this new update post, first, we would like to thank you all for your patience in waiting on this major update. It took us some time, but we wanted to make it right. It was a lot of testing, tweaking, and many small changes. We hope it was worth it.

The first major change we want to mention is the new HUD. Our goal with HUD was to be more intuitive, for players to easily recognize each part of the HUD, and to bring a new refreshment with a new design.
Simplistic, but with key details to make it more elegant. The new part of the HUD is a speedometer, gear indicator, and a few additional small details about the car.

Car Handling

The second major change is car driving. Each car has been revamped, with a new gear setup, new engine sound properties, and a new acceleration. In general, all cars are at least a bit faster, and some are significantly faster.
But, don’t forget, weight has its part, the heavier the car, the slower it goes. We did a little drag race, just for fun, because why not?

Tire Reinforcement

Tire reinforcement is our latest car equipment added. It’s simple equipment for wheels that prevents the car from falling into the mud. No more annoying mud, huh?
It is also a nice touch for those who like a more “spike-ish” look for their ride.

Wheel Spring

Some folks prefer low, others prefer high cars, so we added a Wheel Spring option to our car customization. With wheel springs you can adjust car height, but also spring stiffness. From Soft to Hard.

We also made significant changes to car health and armor. We noticed that all cars have low health without armor, so we rebalanced the whole system. It should feel much better now.
Alongside our regular balancing, bugfixing, and optimization, we added many smaller features to make the gameplay feel better and the visuals nicer.

We hope you’ll enjoy this update, and until the next one, happy chaos-making! :fire:

May Update - New Special Rockets, Crosshair Messages, and More!

New Minor Update for Chaos on Wheels

In this update, we implemented some of the features we gathered on our Discord Server, so head out to the server and talk to us, we love hearing your feedback.

New Special Rockets

Two new Special Rockets are our biggest hit for this update. Special Rocket Ice and Special Rocket Follower are inspired by some older games from the genre, and we tried to convey the same feeling of those rockets in Chaos on Wheels.

Special Rocket “Ice”

Special Rocket Ice got its name because if you hit the enemy’s car with it, it freezes the enemy car, disabling it completely for a short period. Your enemy becomes one big block of ice, and while it’s frozen you can shoot it and make major damage to the enemy while it’s defenseless.

Special Rocket “Follower”

Special Rocket Follower is guess what? Following enemy! - Right!
Special Rocket Follower is a homing type rocket and if fired in the direction of an enemy, either car or turret, it will detect and crash down onto your enemy guided by high precision technology. Rocket picks enemy homing type same as Homing Missiles (Q key missiles), so make sure you change it depending on your target preferences (Default is “X” key to toggle homing type between car & turret).

Crosshair Messages

Have you wondered many times why my rockets aren’t firing, or maybe why is my gun not shooting? Probably you have, and probably the reason wasn’t a bug, but either your gun was overheated, or your rocket launcher was reloading. To make it more obvious, we added “Crosshair messages”. If you try to fire the main gun or rocket launcher, and it’s not available at the moment, it will write you a message near the crosshair, stating why it can’t do the firing.

Fireproof Paint in Career

From now on in the Carrer Marketplace, you can buy special fireproof paint for your car. Protect your precious ride from fire damage, and be more safe in combat.

Career Car Unlocked in Local Play

We know you worked hard to get your ride just right in the Career, and now you can play it in Local play without needing to unlock all the parts in local play mode. Your Career car is fully unlocked in local play, no questions asked.

Other Changes

Several Sound Effects were improved and added to get us one step closer to better game immersion.
We did some polish on maps Valley, Ice Road, Abandoned Race Track, and on map Military base. We also made some slight HUD and UI tweaks making it look better. With some small bugs squished that would be all for this minor update. We’re looking forward to hearing from you guys, and happy chaos-making! Until the next one!
