Chaos on Wheels - New vehicular combat game

You are welcome @Zezkaii :white_heart:
I don’t doubt that :joy:

For now, you can relax :relieved:. Demo will be out till the first Beta testing, probably. Dont know the exact date yet but you will have plenty of time with the current Demo.

Did not test as much now but it is really fun to play.
This weekend i will take my time and will test this more.

  • Not sure how you handle the mud but if i should guess, phys mat. I did not test if it is possible but slowing down the friction with a timeline would help a lot if this is possible. I think this would just feel more natural.
  • I did not noticed the laser destroyed the rockets but this will explain this

I have test this with the feedback myself, friends are mostly just to kind .
For me it is often of more value if sombody unknown give this and just tells me what he thinks and see.

Hey @Thorsten09

Don’t hold back. We need honest feedback even if it is hard to swallow but that feedback will direct us on the right path.
Thank you for that!

  • Yeah, we could try something like that to fix it and to make it more natural.

  • I guess the laser is not that easy to notice. We will keep in mind to make some VFX for the turrets’ defence.

The March update for Chaos on Wheels is here.
As you might know, we released a Demo last month, so we will outline all the significant changes we made for it.

Let’s start with maps.

1. MAPS

We redesigned all our maps. We started level design with principle where map should be just one big open area. We thought since it’s a driving game, you don’t want to focus too much on avoiding stuff on the map. But we were wrong. It’s actually way better to do maps with more style and real-world design. It just feels more natural.

2. SINGLEPLAYER CHAOS CAREER

We implemented a full singleplayer career game system.

What is Chaos Career, you might wonder?

Chaos Career is a game system, where players manage their own garage with 5 car slots. You, as a player, can buy and sell cars, guns, armor, ammo, and gadgets, you can customize cars, upgrade them, and upgrade equipment. After you have the car of your dream, select your driver, and engage in combat of total mayhem. Earn, cash, experience, and Chaos points, to level up, unlock new equipment, and make even more chaos. Don’t forget to complete challenges, and achievements. climb on the leaderboard of Chaos, and become King of Chaos.

Let us show you in this video what Chaos Garage gameplay looks like

3. DESTRUCTIBLE

We also made destructible our priority in level design. Simply, more stuff to destroy, more fun to enjoy. :boom::boom::boom:

4. DRIVER SCIENTIST

:test_tube: Our beloved driver Scientist got a new 3D model. With his toxic ammo as an ability, Dr. John Sick is now indeed sick, if you ask us. :skull:

A Scientist is the world’s leading expert in bioweapons, and as every team needs a doctor, the Chaos team invited Dr. Sick to join them. John loves good food, fine weapons, and anything that can be seen under a microscope.”

5. OTHER IMPROVEMENTS

We made a lot of minor improvements but there is nothing much to say so we will only name a few of them.

  • Map Optimization
  • Car optimization
  • Equipment optimization
  • Driver optimization
  • Main Gun Shooting adjusted
  • General SFX improvements
  • Balancing
  • Fixed Spectator camera on the Game end
  • Fixed Garage background music
  • Fixed AI stuck in a wounded state
  • …and more

Not sure if the demo is live already i was testing v0.19.1.1 - demo. Did not start a update thats why i was wondering.

But i could play and test chaos career.

I like the place where the cars are placed, it´s very well made. Also the little details like how you cover the cars you dont own is really nice.
You have a lot of stuff to watch in there, lots of statistics i bet people will love. This looks like it would give the player dozens of hours playtime.

I did not noticed before but driving over cows and pigs is just funny, i like this kind of humor. Also still fun just to stupidly blowing up the environment, this is really enjoyable.

A few things i noticed after playing again:

  • To start the single player campaign you can choose between “continue, new story and replay”. It would just be a little quality of life if you start directly after pressing continue without the need to press the start button after this to start.
  • Not sure if this is somewhere but i dont see at the first view how much live the enemy cars or turrets have left if i shoot them (and it feels like they are pretty much bullet sponges). At least not really easy to see for me.
  • Seems like enemy cars need more love with there ai, they often get stuck at trees or just random obstacles.
  • Oh and the mud again, not sure but it looks like the mud uses the same textures as normla parts of the road? At least i thought so while driving trough it.

This is a really fun to play game, with a lot of potential to become a great successor for games like twisted metal.

No, we haven’t updated Demo. You played the latest version.

Glad to hear that you like Chaos Career
It plays quite a significant role in our project.

We were a bit afraid that it was going to be too much with cows and pigs. So it is nice to hear that you liked it and maybe in future we could add more pets to walk happily on the battlefields :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

  • We get what you are saying and originally we made it the way you said but throughout all other parts of the game you have to press “start” to start playing so we made everything start with a button “start”.

  • We are aware of that feature and we are still planning on how are we going to make it.

  • Now that is quite an issue which we upgraded before the Demo release but obviously, we need to improve it more.

  • I confirm that it is hard to notice sometimes. We could use some texture to make it easier to recognise from normal mud/dirt roads.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback and for the kind words. You made my weekend :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
We hope you enjoyed making Chaos :boom:

Have a nice weekend :white_heart:

The April update for Chaos on Wheels arrived.
For the April update, we did manage to do a lot of development, so let’s get started. :checkered_flag:

  1. PLOWING

Plowing?! You must think we’re crazy  if we implemented plowing.
Well worry not  we just didn’t have any idea how to name this feature, and because it feels like plowing through moveable and destructible objects, we come up with this name.
It’s actually pretty fun! :tractor::boom:

  1. STEAM ACHIEVEMENT

Many say this one’s good. Maybe because there is no better feeling than knowing what you do will be rewarded. Maybe because there is something good about looking back at what you accomplished? Maybe :woman_shrugging:
Either way, we got you. We added 20 initial achievements for you :medal_military:
Once we polish other things, you can be sure we’ll add plenty more.

  1. AI DRONES

While you focus on the danger on the road, don’t forget to check up on the sky as well. Something might drop from there! :parachute:
Helios is a sneaky one and has taken control over drones too. They may or may not be dangerous, but one thing is for sure. It’s fun to blow them up :boom:

  1. HELIOS BOSS

I’m sure you’ve heard about our Helios, but what you didn’t know, there is a little secret!
You can relax, as we won’t spoil it for you
Just make sure you pay attention in the campaign… till then… here is Big Boss with his servants.

  1. TURRET SHIELD & SHIELD STATION

With the advancement of magnetic energy, Helios created projectile-free shields for its turrets :mechanical_arm:
Better find a way to break them!

  1. HUD TIPS

Even the best needs sometimes tips. Not everything can be understood on the first look. You can have a tough day, and your brain is just too tired to figure out what to do, and it just wants to blow stuff up. Well, we know that feeling… To ease up, we added some helpful tips on the main board on the HUD.

  1. OTHER IMPROVEMENTS

We made a lot of minor improvements but there is nothing much to say so we will only name a few of them.

  • Hazard leftovers
  • Fix for Radar Z orientation
  • Added Radar support for more object types
  • Hazard leaving rewards on destroy
  • Car steering improvement
  • …and more

Excellent work to you and the team @Condara for providing another wonderful update! With the introduction of "plowing, AI Drones, and the Helios Boss, things are definitely looking more chaotic for “Chaos on Wheels.” :racing_car: :raised_hands:

The May update for Chaos on Wheels has arrived.
This update brought a map to revamp, hazards and career improvements. Check it out!

  1. SNOW FOREST PATH - REVAMP

The map that stands out from the rest just received an upgrade. The design of the map stayed the same… wide snow road across winter forests… but we added side-road areas for players to explore, fight Helios’ army, and gather pickups to survive or to crush enemies in a more Chaotic way :boom:

“A white shining path which leads to the exit of the snowy nightmare. A road made of endless winter forests, surrounded by natural and Helios’ hazards.”

  1. HAZARD - LEFTOVER & REWARD

Hazards were kind of left behind in previous months so this time we gave them care. Now it is even more satisfying to blow them up because once they are destroyed, the player will be rewarded with random pickup :gift:

Additionally, leftovers will be left behind to mark your rage :smiling_imp:

  1. CAREER ITEMS

Wanna try yourself in Chaos Carrer? :boom:
Carrer allows you to progress thru Chaos World starting low and building up to become :crown: King of Chaos. While building Carrer, Garage is gonna be a place to make your Chaos Machine and the Market is where you gonna spend your money :moneybag:

That is why we added thumbnails on all items available in the Market. Now they are easy to recognise and give you brief visual info on what you are buying :relieved:

  1. BLACK MARKET

Do you like to wait for prices to drop or find another cheaper supplier to make your spending most officiant? :heavy_dollar_sign:
Well, we got a brand new feature for you inside the Market.

It is called Black Market and it allows you to make smart deals for your future Career. Items inside Black Market are temporary to purchase and once the next shipping is ready, Black Market refreshes with new deals. So be ready

  1. OTHER IMPROVEMENTS

We made a lot of minor improvements but there is nothing much to say so we will only name a few of them.

  • Career gameplay adjustment
  • Chapter 4 & 5 balance
  • Campaign car sockets
  • Steam Cloud saving
  • Lock conditions
  • …and more

The June update for Chaos on Wheels has arrived :arrow_double_up:
In the previous month, our focus was on the visual parts of the game. Check out car tuning, driver skins and rainy Village visual update.

  1. CAR TUNING

More love has been given to car customization :hammer_and_wrench:
This time it is all about the visuals of your chaos machine. As usual, you can change color but now you can also add “body wrap” with a pattern of your choice. Your lights, windows and wheels also can change color.
The video below will explain it better than words. Take a look! :sunglasses:

  1. DRIVER SKINS

Everybody has unique tastes in looks, so we added driver skins to “hopefully” match your taste. You wanna see Sunshine without her helmet? Be our guest :relieved:

  1. VILLAGE - VISUAL IMPROVEMENT

Back when we released the first Demo version for “Chaos on Wheels” our first map was dark-rainy Valley at night. Throughout the development, we change it to be calmer and more colorful. So we transferred the dark-rainy mood to our Village map.
It used to be just the Village at night but now it is a rainy dark place with thunders roaming the sky :zap::cloud_with_lightning_and_rain:

  1. OTHER IMPROVEMENTS

We made a lot of minor improvements but there is nothing much to say so we will only name a few of them.

  • Village Balancing
  • Snow Forest Camp Balancing
  • Destructible sounds improvement
  • Driver ability adjust
  • Career Driver implementation

I feel ashamed I missed June’s update, but I’m here now, and Chaos on Wheels looks as good as ever!

The maps look lovelier thanks to your team’s astute attention to detail, and adding driver skins was a fantastic idea! I can’t wait to dawn the title “King of Chaos”; it has a nice ring to it. :smiling_imp:

Dev Blog #1 - July 2023

Welcome back Chaos Crew!
Early Access is near so we decided to replace our Monthly Updates with Dev Blogs.

The team has been hard at work the last few weeks and wanted to post a quick update about the state of Chaos on Wheels and what we’ve got coming up!

First, we have officially announced the game and hope that this means more folks joining our Discord and the community. More Chaos Crew means more mayhem! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be continuing to update everyone on any game changes or updates, including this month’s demo update!

Here are some of the changes you’ll notice when jumping into the Demo:

  • 2-player Split Screen has been enabled in local play.
  • There are now daily, weekly, and monthly challenges in Career.
  • We’ve added Steam Achievements.
  • There are additional car visual customizations (full body wrap, headlight color options, under glow lights, windscreen tint, and wheel color customization).
  • We’ve added Chaos Game Mode.
  • More equipment, cars, and items are available in the Career shop.
  • The Black Market is now available in Career.
  • Driver Styles are available in Career.
  • We have separated drivers and drivers’ abilities in Career.
  • We have implemented squads in Career.

Over the next few months, we’ll be posting more blogs like this one that will take a deeper dive into Chaos on Wheels to give you a closer look at development, the vehicles, all of the customization options, and more. And as we inch close to our Early Access release date, we hope to start inviting some of your favorite content creators to try out the game for themselves. Any feedback we receive during this time is super valuable and will help us deliver the best game possible for everyone!

Thanks very much as always for all of your support; we look forward to sharing even more news as we head toward 2024!

The game development looks amazing!

I have looked at all the updates and I want to say that the number of environments is impressive. I didn’t find the exact number, but I think you’ve given a lot of time to this.

I spent the past year working on the creation of a fleet of cars for exactly the same reason as you. I completely agree that racing games are one of the most popular genres.

Good luck on this great journey!

Yeah. A lot of time went into CoW development considering that only two of us started it all. Since we are close to the Early Access stage I’m so happy that we picked and stayed on this path.

Thanks for the kind words and I wish you too all the best on your journey as well.
