Cascaded Shadow Map artifacts - Flashing squares in dark areas

When using Cascaded shadow maps with a fairly short distance (1000.0), I am getting bad, flickering artifacts. As you can see in the shots below, they are very distracting. I have played with all the settings for the cascaded shadowmaps, but the only thing that resolves then is to turn off the cascaded shadowmaps from the light.

This is present in both 4.0.2 and 4.1, The light is a Stationary directional light with a brightness of 25 and lightmass built shadows (No LPV or anything fancy)

I’m running on Window 7 Pro SP1, i7 4770 Geforce 670 2Gb. I’ve even tried underclocking my card to see if it was a card issue.


Thank you for your report. We were not able to investigate this on the engine version you reported, but there have been many version changes to UE4 since this question was first posted. With a new version of the Engine comes new fixes and it is possible that this issue has changed or may no longer occur.
