Cannot place foliage on static meshes. At all

I have checked whether they are in the same persistent level, and ‘place on static mesh’ is set to true.
I could not find anything, I appear to be the first person to have such an issue. I have tried making a terrain, and I could place foliage on that just fine, it is just the static meshes of any kind that nullifies it.

Do the meshes have block all collsion?

Just checked, yes it does.

Ok, also take a look at the scene in player collision view. Sometimes, there’s a crazily large collision going right across the scene, and you can’t paint where you want to…

Also check your ground slope angle in the foliage instances, are you trying to paint on top of a mesh, or the side? Often, you need to set it to 95.

This has really been bugging me, as I was trying out what you said and I kicked myself.
The cause was the height limit on the foliage settings was below the Z location on my island. Thanks for the help!

Ah, fab…
