Cannot change base color of translucent material

As soon as I change the material blend mode to translucent, the preview goes black. If I apply the material to a mesh, the mesh shows as the default checkered pattern. This happens even if I apply a constant to the base color, and If I change the lighting mode to surface translucencyVolume. Any ideas? The preview is a solid black sphere.

Can you show the material?

Sure! Here is a screenshot.

Ok, should work. Can you change the color, and try putting it in the level on a sphere?

Okay it actually seems to work in the level itself, I must have applied it wrong when I tried that yesterday. If I change the color and apply it to a sphere, the changes show up. But in the material preview when I’m editing the nodes, it stays black. Is there a way to fix that?

Do you have live update on?

For some reason that’s disabled by default in 5.

Those were turned off so I just checked all of those options on, thank you! The preview hasn’t changed though. It still shows as a translucent black sphere no matter what I change the color to.

If I change the dropdown in the asset viewer to “neutral” instead of “clearSky”, that seems to fix it, but I’m still curious why “clearSky” doesn’t work.
