I need a little help with dark shadow spots on my meshes.
I’ve been trying to figure this out the last week, reading all the other posts about lighting issues, but I can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve checked my model over and over, split it up in smaller bits and re-doing UVs and checking normals etc.
The mesh just doesn’t look good in UE. Some of it got better after splitting the original mesh up, but I feel like this should be looking better at this point. (This is just part of the original mesh)
Your UV looks not good. Take a look at this video about basic principles to create UV for lightmaps (video create for MAYA, but actually for all 3d programs):
and this websites:
And in FBX Import Options and do not forget to uncheck Generate Lightmap UVs
So I’ve been messing with this the last couple of days and It’s gotten better, but not to the point where I’m happy with it.
Is Blender just not the tool for the job? Does it need Maya or 3DS Max to get the job done correctly? I see in the video link you posted that there are tools in Maya to snap to grid etc, which is not that easy in Blender. Is this why the lighting is the way it is?
I just wanted to thank you guys for helping out. I’m new to this forum, so I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions.
I think it’s finally coming together. And I’m finally getting it. After turning edges and flipping and grouping, I’m getting closer to the result I was hoping for. Now I just need to align with pixels and some packing and I think it should be as good as it can get.
I have a new found respect for guys who do this every day.
