World Creator 2 - A Procedural Terrain and Landscape Generator for Unreal Engine

We’ve been looking at different terrain creators for an open world VR game, World Creator being one of them.

Has anyone had experience using World Creator specifically for VR?

I see this topic was not visited for a long time.

If anyone is interested in newest informations and seek for help in regards to World Creator, I would suggest joining the official discord channel

Also nice thing to see that some of the UE4 staff (I assume ??) meddles around with World Creator 2 in their workflow as in the video below

Around 8 minute mark.

Also wanted to mention that World Creator 3 is in development, can’t go into details sadly, but there should be more info soon (check Discord  ). What is official is that it is built on custom engine developed just for the WC3, it will have pathtracing rendering and ofc new and refined terrain generation features. Also it will have new UI system. For details we must wait

Hi a small update

(Disclaimer, I do not work for producers of World Creator I am a regular user that love the software).

We can finally spit some info about World Creator 3. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND ALL SCREENSHOTS BELOW ARE WORK IN PROGRESS FROM PRE-ALPHA SO A LOT CAN CHANGE

One of the most important, core changes, in the new version is dropping of a current engine (Unity) and switching entirely to the custom dedicated engine developed fully from scratch by the World Creator team. This allowed the team to optimize the process by approximately 2.5 times (state of now before any further optimizations), gives the developers freedom, control and free hand in what they can create, now there is no 3rd party obstacle that stops the team from doing anything, sky is the limit

There is also new and enhanced UI system, that is fully customizable (you can change almost everything, including fonts).

Of course first and foremost World Creator is a terrain generation tool, so there will be a lot of upgrades to the existing tools and some new one.

One of the most importnat new features is a new biome system, that immensly improve the workflow and artistic freedom. You can create multiple biomes, either procedurally or you can paint them by hand. Of course biomes are supported by the old and new set of distribution rules, which also gets a nice extension but about that a little bit later. The nice thing about new biome system, you can create and export biomes you create and build a library out of your previous work, so you can reuse every biome you ever created and saved. You can also share the biomes with others

.

Another importnat and big change is the support for tiled workflow, which basically enables BIG WORLDs support. You will be able to add multiple tiles to the workspace. Simply ‘click in’ new tiles in any direction to your terrain and World Creator will calculate, stich and adjust the new tile automatically.

Of course we will have access to existing and many new filters for terrain deformation. Team put more love into new erosion models, in the above screenshots you can see the new simple erosion model, which already produces great results (in my opinion a lot better than existing World Creator 2 erosion filters). In the plans is also PARTICLE based erosion, which will be even more accurate, it will allow to calculate erosion and sedimentation of any type in one step. There will also be new flow map calculation models, the screenshots above utilize the simple model. And guys, all that in real time with pathtracing. You don’t have to wait for long builds and slow CPU workflow

As for fiters and distribution rules, you will be able to write your own filters and distribution rules just inside World Creator 3, you can pair with your bestie tech artist and create some awesomeness together

Also small feature, maybe not possible to utilize in Unreal Engine yet, but World Creator 3 will have a support for Vector Displacement maps.

New version will obviously retain all the features that are available now in World Creator 2. On top there will be ofc even more features, but some were not yet officially announced :). And the best thing is if you have an active maintenence period for WC2, WC3 will be a free update.

If you want to be up to date please join the official discord i linked in above post.
