World Aligned Texture + Modernised Version - Weird Shadow / Darkness On Mesh

Hi All,

Ran into an issue while trying to use WorldAlignedTexture/Normal and the modernised version by Alina Lede, to quickly texture my modular world and wondering if anyone also encountered the same/similar issue.

Almost half the mesh (wall, ceiling, and floor) are covered in darkness/shadow, while the props are lit properly as shown in the image below.

What would be the likely cause for this? And how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

If you try replacing the rect light with a point light, do you have the same problem?

Can you share a lighting only visualization mode?

From the looks of your screenshot, that seems like a normals/space issue, rather than a lighting one. You are working with WorldAlignedTexture and WorldAlignedNormal, and all props are lit as expected, yet only the planar meshes (walls, floor, ceiling) are reacting with strange shadows.

So, the most likely case, is that your WorldAlignedNormal is sending a world space normal, but your material is set to Tangent Space Normal, and UE reacts like this, creating darkness in the wrong places. To check if this is the cause, open your material, check over Details, search for “Tangent Space Normal”, and disable it.
