Windows Mixed Reality Controller Sticks - How can I use them?

I’m working with Unreal 4.21 and trying to get the left and right controller scripts working via axis binding but can’t seem to do this - the only axis available seems to be the touchpad on the WMR controllers.

Can anyone point me in the direction of documentation, other posts or relevant articles on this?

You can get this to work if you use the Steam Input plugin as it let’s you map a input action to a controller button/trigger etc outside of unreal. That way you get around the lack of direct integration of this in the engine as an input.

I’m curious whether this has been fixed with Epics updates for mixed reality headsets of whether there is any more general approach with OpenXR which might now work
