Windows 10 Performance Decrease

Has anyone else experienced lower performance after updating to Windows 10? I lost almost 40 frames per second in my project following my move to the new OS.

Have you updated your GPU drivers?

Yeah, took some work but I did.

The performance is still bad even after the driver update though.

I was getting horrible performance in everything the first couple of days, but now, it seems a bit faster than windows 7. I have no idea why, as the performance monitor didn’t show anything out of wack :\ Supposedly, Microsoft is releasing quite a few updates this month for Windows 10… I hope that all of the bugs I’ve encountered are fixed :\

Extremely odd, I have been on win ten since like December and i’ve not noticed anything like this.

There are some draining processes running when you update Windows, and if you have an old installation like me it takes a long time to complete. Don’t know what all its doing, guess indexing, scanning for malware (or analyse what you have on your drives so MS knows for marketing and the NSA knows in case you build neutron bombs (they won’t find my plans!!(offline))), updateing NTFS structures or security, or whatever. I couldn’t pinpoint it to a process either, except for some windows process I couldn’t find any information except that its an actual MS Windows delievered one (appcomp.exe or somesuch, forgot the name).

Maybe that’s what you people experience.

They shall never find my plans too! Because I’m making them on Linux!

I’m not sure what the issue is, before I would get 60-70fps in my project, now it’s about 30-40. Here are my specs if it helps.

I too am gettinga lot worse performance from UE4 on windows 10 than I got on windows 8, 8.1 and the beta for 10 =/

For the record… I did a clean install of windows 10 (instead of the upgrade) last night and the performance problem appears to be fixed.

Guys, check task manager on administrator rights (it shows all processes) and see CPU usage to find the bad guy and disable him if possible. Considering “it fixes it self” means it’s not Unreal

UE4 went from using about 20% CPU and 10% memory during normal operations on my project under windows 8.1 to over 50% CPU and memory after the windows 10 upgrade. As it fixed on a clean install it’s back down to 20 and 10. I’m pretty sure the issue is something along the lines of the MS .NET framework or C++ redistributables (assuming UE4 uses any of these library installs) as a few games that also required them weren’t running, or were running poorly, after upgrade but are fine now on clean install. However, I tried to repair these all after the upgrade and it didn’t fix it. Anyways… point is, task manager points to UE4 being the issue so that check was no use for me as it clearly suggested UE4 was the issue. I think the windows 10 upgrade just doesn’t do well with some of the library install stuff.

I’m still having issues even after upgrading my graphics drivers last night, can’t seem to find anything in my task manager that is using up/hogging resources. I’ve lost 30-40 fps in the same scene I had prior to the Windows 10 upgrade, I’m really at a loss as to what is causing this.

I don’t have this issue at all. infact my bad slow pc’s preformance has increased since doing a full wipe and CLEAN install of windows 10(not upgrade) The issue is from upgrading to windows 10 from a previous edition. if you do a CLEAN install(not an upgrade) file permissions are fixed when installing ue4. When you do an upgrade it causes mismatches in folder permissions and slows performance. i know this because every game on my pc had issues. and the things i had installed started using more memory because the system is fighting for permission rights. i couldnt even install drivers as they would say permission denied when trying to install updates. DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF WINDOWS 10… (NOT AN UPGRADE) reinstall all your programs = super fast PC again.

  1. windows 7 = 45% cpu with UE4
  2. windows 10 (upgrade) = 65% cpu with UE4
  3. windows 10 CLEAN INSTALL = 20% cpu usage with UE4

DO a windows 10 CLEAN install. UPGRADING WINDOWS BREAKS OLDER INSTALLED PROGRAMS…

I upgraded (not clean install) my Win7 install with ~7 years of junk on it and I’m getting the same or better fps across everything, everything on my PC runs pretty much the same.

Just my two cents if someone is still experiencing these problems after upgrading…:
If you have EVGA PrecisionX or something similar installed, try quitting those programs and see if it makes a difference.

I recently upgraded to windows 10 and got horrible performance in the editor (15-30fps) - closed precision, restarted the editor and boom - 120+ fps.
Note: All drivers were up-to-date + latest PrecisionX version.

I have all updated drivers, just did a clean install of Windows 10, still getting crappy performance compared to when I was on Windows 8.1. I’ve lost about 40fps on average.

Bump, still experiencing all the same issues after several driver updates, a clean win10 install, and extensive exploration into my CPU usage; all is as it was before I moved to win10, apart from the performance.
