When you have a wildlife spawner set to spawn chickens initially everything works. The problems start when you go past a certain distance from them as a player.
I have world streaming enabled but for the blue barrier wall, streaming is not enabled and never distance cull is on. I also tried with barriers and the ai block device and nothing helps.
I spent ages working out what was happening as the chickens was always escaping and sometimes would just vanish. What i have done in the interim until this is looked at is run a loop that teleports the chickens back. The distance to activate teleportation is outside the blue wall. I have only tested chickens but one would assume it would be any ai creature/animal type. As you can see in the video i will link below it starts small then all the chickens start going past the set distance.

What Type of Bug are you experiencing?
Devices
Steps to Reproduce
Place a wildlife spawner device
spawn some chickens
setup verse so you can check prints ect
run away from the device
watch for the prints
Expected Result
they should always be in the same area contained within the barrier/walled area. Player distance away from the device should not change how the ai behave
Observed Result
its all over the place tbh sometimes chickens just vanish never to be seen again sometimes they were walking about outside the walled area hence the verse teleport tactic
I’ve been spending a week updating the map and tbh this was a issue before when i made it months ago i just didn’t know about teleporting then. I spent 2 days back then working out an elim way but its bugged and doesn’t work as intended hence trying to fix the issue with teleporting them back but i do think it needs a check
Distance at 9899 ? crazy far and eventually the chicken dies hence the break in this snip could be due to all the TeleportTo errors ? Yea i need some help with this one
Just to further add I’ve been trying to take a peak at the issue
I setup the Fixed Point Camera so i could see what was happening. It looks like the chickens actually teleport themselves away from the enclosure thus triggering the distance check and teleporting back. You can sorta see the issue in the yt vid i will link below.
On another note if i sit and watch the chickens via the camera then they never actually do anything ie go past the wall so idk if they is a distance thing connected to the camera and player but that’s also odd how they don’t escape when spectating them via the camera device
At the end of the vid you can see it teleport outside the area and just go for a stroll
So this is not a verse issue ?, you just used verse to observe and teleport chickens back ?
I am planning to use boars, most it doesn’t matter but some need to stay in pig pens and one needs to not move.
I probably would never have noticed the issue, thanks for the well timed post, hopefully it will be fixed by the time I get to the boaring bit
Yea i don’t think its direct verse related although i use verse to spawn them ect all that functions as intended im just using verse to Teleport them back as a bug fix and print location ect it helps for bug identification for sure
I haven’t tested but i would assume the behavior would be the same on direct device bindings as all I’m doing is spawning the chicken and running away. I also haven’t tried other animals but again one would assume it’d be the same albeit they could be different npc behavior classes setup by Epic so they could also act differently
As stated above i have world streaming on and although i did not know devices were included into world streaming i think that’s the issue as images below unless the ai being the chickens in this case can and do conform to world streaming
