We have a Cinematic Camera that doesnt have a squeeze factor in order to get the anamorphic bokeh. Sounds ironic since it’s something very used in cinema.
There are ways to get the lens flare, that’s not much of a problem, and there are also ways to get an anormphic bokeh with a custom post-process effect. But this is not that useful,
The awesome thing would be to have the “squeeze” factor on the Cinematic DOF, since it’s very good and it’s already integrated in the engine, basically what Star Wars Fallen Order did, not just some custom post process, something fully integrated.
Any plans to add this in the future?
Thanks, keep the awesome work!
YES!
Having squeeze factor would be so so so useful, especially for people like me, who are filmmakers using Unreal more as a render engine than a game engine, and we want to achieve some specific stylistic effects, like what shooting in anamorphic looks like.
Especially nowadays, that Unreal is used in film and virtual production, it would be really helpful, maybe even introduce presets where Unreal would create similar looking footage to what certain sensors and lenses create.
When it comes to Fallen Order, they were developing this game for a while so I think they used an older version of Unreal, before they introduced the Cinematic DoF and removed the previous technique, if I remember correctly you had much more control over the look of previous DoF
