Hi, guys! I am using UE5.3.2, I noticed my unreal editor started flicking every few seconds those days. Like in the following video:
The fps flicking every few seconds, and obviously the screen is choppy at the same time even when its not playing.
Anyone has the idea to fix this? Any solution will be appreciated!
What’s your RAM capacity? The minimum recommended RAM capacity for UE 5 is 32GB. But there are also other things to look for, because I don’t remember encountering that frequent stutters with such a simple scene when I had 16GB of RAM. So here are the things you can do:
First, make sure that the editor is set to run on high performance from Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
If you’re using a software like Armoury Crate, check if you’re on the performance mode, and not on a mode that restricts performance in order to save energy.
If you’re on a laptop with Nvidia GPU, try switching the display mode to Nvidia GPU Only from Nvidia Control Panel > Display Mode. And of course if you’re on a laptop, it must be plugged in!
And finally, if the issue isn’t about any of the above, try reducing the project’s scalability from Quick Settings (The Settings menu on the right side of the toolbar at the top, with a gear icon next to it) > Engine Scalability Settings.
Thank for your reply with so many solutions! After I restart my laptop and open unreal editor first, I go rid of this choppy (Although I am not sure if I found out the main reason). I will try your solutions if I encounter this again.
Thanks again!
It’s not called flickering, it’s called stutters. And not the micro kind. Welcome to Unreal; this is just how it is here.
Sometimes it behaves the same for me as it does for you in that vid. Sometimes it’s mostly fine, depends no rhyme or reasson to why it sometimes is a stuttery mess and sometimes not under the exact same conditions.
