Why "Mask material only in early Z-pass"not default On for Early Z-pass?

It’s quite a big improvement of rendering and no problem so far.So is there a downside of it since it’s not default and i almost miss it?

Alpha-tested shader in early z pass makes it slower and brings in some complications.

But if it profiles to a net gain for you, there is no downside of having it on.
