We’re using the master material and the material instance.
Basically the size of the material instance is not big. It seems that the material instance contains reference-oriented data of the master material.
But the size of cooked content of the material instance is as big as cooked master material.
Sometimes cooked material instance is bigger than cooked master material.
Is it normal? Or are there any options to shrink the size of cooked material instance?
I would appreciate for any advice.
Hello sharbong -
Can you let me know what packaging options you are using and for what device, or if you are only Cooking Content without packaging? Also let me know what your Target Hardware and Supported Hardware are?
Thank You -
Eric Ketchum
Target device is the Android and ios, Android has progressed to ETC1.
Help me.
Thank You.
Hi -
I am not seeing this behavior you are describing:
Can you post a screen capture of your Master Material or provide a sample project showing the behavior?
Thank You

Two quick questions, what OS are your packaging from (not to)? Windows, Linux, Mac? and can you give me a brief breakdown of the Material Function you are using in the Master material?
Thank You
Eric Ketchum
Packaging os is windows.
This Material to use a feature, depending on the branch.
My apologies for being unclear here, MF_Twinkle is a Material Function connected into your emissive chain what does it look like / do ?

Hi sharbong -
I rebuilt your material shown and created a few test Instances and the behavior is what I would expect from a complex Master Material on Packaging. Material Instances in which large elements, textures and entire chains of the the Shader are added or removed will need additional space to record elements not found in the Master Material. The added space when you package comes from setting the Shader to function with multiple Targeted Hardware types and needing to allow compiling for both Direct X and OpenGL.
For reference though I have attached my Sample project and if you can package and cook content and see if your file sizes are the same as mine from the sample project.
Thank You
Eric Ketchum
