Summary

Hello everyone,

Just thought I’d ask the community why the thumbnails for our Mega Mall Tycoon game are being rejected, but also
we also keep getting vague emails not explain enough on the specific thumbnail and the specific issue of the thumbnail.

My team and I are willing to make any changes but we cannot just make random changes to an issue we don’t understand. We read the Thumbnail Image Guidelines and the Creator rules also but don’t seem to find an issue without a thumbnail.

We even looked at other people’s thumbnails after a few failed publishing attempts to see if we could spot issues with our own, of which we didn’t see any in our thumbnail(s).

Myself, the team, and possibly others would greatly benefit from some answers or some discussion about what is acceptable when publishing a thumbnail
as the responses are unclear.

Thank you!

Hi Vakonitas,

My guess is that it is a problem with your lobby thumbnail.

“It cannot contain any text” from lobby image guidelines

You’re right, I missed that thank you!

I see many other creator thumbnails use text in their thumbnails but I wasn’t sure if it was the issue or not.

I assume “No Text” is for the landscape thumbnail, but the square thumbnail is allowed to have text, or are both thumbnails not allowed to have text in them? - just want 100% clarification.

Thanks for the reply, really appreciated!

Wait no.

The lobby background is fine as it’s the same one we have active now, I think I am being hit for the Landscape Thumbnail and Square Thumbnail only.

It states: “You can include the game name, but be aware that it will also show under the image in Discover.” from Thumbnail Image Guidelines for Discover
Unless I’m reading that wrong, that should be fine.

Could it be the background/ patterns? Again I see a few examples on the discovery page of Fortnite that have all kinds of thumbnails for the same kind of tycoon game and I do not want to follow the “level 0 - level 999” thumbnail meta.

Cheers.

The ‘No Text’ thing applies to only the “Lobby Background Image”, not the square or landscape images. - You said your lobby background is active now, but I wonder if that’s a case of it only being enforced now that you’re submitting an update.

Otherwise, your landscape/square thumbnails are basic, so it’s hard to imagine any moderator having a problem with them.

I think they look good. (Good Font, Drop Shadow, Two-tone colors), I just wonder if it meets the “Be engaging” criteria listed.

I think you are right about the “Be Engaging” part.

I will remove the current blue pattern background and use an in-game screenshot of my game with that same text from the current landscape/ square thumbnails and see if that works.

If not I’ll try something else but thank you so much for the help!

I’ll post again if I manage to get the next thumbnail out without issue.
