Why is oculus rift stuttering in ue4.17?

I recently migrated my project from 15.3 to 17.1 and where oculus rift worked perfectly fine in the previous version the new version does not. It’s night and day, I have a basic scene nothing too fancy. I’ve heard there could be 3d widget related issues but I have none in my scene. When I jump in my HMD, I can see immediately stuttering turning my head, moving the touch controllers. It’s a mess. I know there are others out there experiencing this so when can we expect some feedback? This is a pretty big deal as it makes development on the oculus rift impossible.
