Just for understanding purposes.
Why is lightmass calculating the whole scene everytime you build lighting?
Wouldn’t it be much less time consuming, if you only rebuild that lightmaps which have changed?

Lightmass has to recalculate for the entire scene in order for lighting to look correct. The option you’re looking for is “Build Selected Only” which does not exist in UE4. There is a feature request in for this, but I don’t see it happening in the near future.
