Why does my Valve Index buttonmapping stop working after game build/package?

Hi.
Valve Index works in Ue4 (buttons and all) even in Standalone Game but as son as I “Build/Package” my game “Windows (64-bit)” all button mappings stop working.
The controllers are still being tracked tho.

As a simple test I bound “Q” to the VR gripping function and that works after the build.

I get no erros while building.

Please advice.

I found the cause of my problem and I just wanted to share it here.
This was apparently not a problem bound to the valve index kit.
(Found that out when I hade my friend with the HTC vive kit testing my game)

In some steam update (awhile back) and abstract controller layer was introduced that you can set controller binding outside of the game (in the vr mode view).

So in the Project Settings - Plugins: SteamVR
there is a “Steam VR Input” layout with 4 options, the likes of “… Manifests” and “… Bindings” etc.

This section generates the template in the VR steam controller bindings for use with a “unreal project” in the steam.
It comes un-mapped the first time(possibly only the first time).
You have to map the buttons to the functions that you have bound buttons to in the “Engine - Input” layout.

One I figured that out, everything worked as expected.
