Fyrex, just to confirm, you don’t have registry issues that JayWebb mentioned in his answer? I believe he linked this post: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/526016/error-2738-fix-blame-your-old-antivirus-for-this-/
Does anything conflict? Like programs other then macaffe?
I also tried to install this on my windows 8 laptop, but it worked and I still had macAffe on it… Now I am completely clueless on what problem is.
Any update on log? I’ve searching issues on how to solve this but none will work.
So, looks like registry entry showed in image you posted points to C:\Windows\SysWow64\vbscript.dll. According to JayWebb’s answer, SysWow64 folder did not work for him, he had to point it to c:\Windows\system32\vbscript.dll. I double checked my registry values and they point to system32 folder too (NOT SysWow64). You could try changing path in Registry to see if that works.
Okay, I tried that but it didn’t work. But I noticed something wierd. If you look at bottom of my regedit it says where I am HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID
And I look at other person’s picture
He is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID
So I went there and this is what I got when I tried to open one of them
I’m not sure if that is one I need to get into or not
Okay so I have a new update on it, I tried to transfer my unreal engine files over from my laptop that could install to one I want it on… I need a msvcr120.dll (I might of spelled 1 part wrong)… Could this possibly mean error?
Hooray! engine works now! Except I still get 2738 problem when I still use installer, so I still want to get that fixed.
Good catch on registry location, I didn’t catch that. That error you are seeing looks like a permission issue. You’ll have to get access to those but I’m not sure exactly how. Perhaps this thread, or ones like it, may help: answers.microsoft.com
Hello all.
I succesfully performed every step in guide so far, deleted mcafee, did registry re-register, ran microsoft fix, but nothing has helped so far. I don’t know if i still have remains of an old anti-virus program like Fyrex. What could i do to fix this problem, i have exactly problem as it shows on main screenshot at top of this page.
@airjamy: Apparently only way to really remove McAfee is with following utility.
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
IT’S VERY GOOD SOLUTION:
After doing some research and trying everything that I came across internet, I figured out how. It’s very easy, just follow steps:
- Search google for “McAffe Consumer Product Removal Tool” or “MCPR.exe”.
- Run MCPR.exe ( http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe )
- Search google for “Microsoft Fix it 50842” or “MicrosoftFixit50842.msi”.
- Run “MicrosoftFixit50842.msi” ( Bing )
- Reboot and cross your fingers.
I had same problem, and resolved it by hacking registry, and followed this guide:
I was on Windows 10 and Microsoft FixIt wouldn’t run.
I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and was trying to install this on a clean SSD. Maybe that had something to do with it, but I have Visual Studio and tons of dev stuff.
So finanally how did you fix it? I have same problem and had tried several solutions found on internet but still nothing worked!!!
I have tried
-
Microsoft Fix it 50842
-
Redownloading, restarting
-
Never installed mcafee Antivirus
-
Run cmd as adminitrator and type
reg delete “HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}” /f
c:\windows\syswow64\regsvr32 vbscript.dll or regsvr32 vbscript.dll -
Run cmd as adminitrator and type
cd %windir%\syswow64
regsvr32 vbscript.dll -
Found vbscript.dll file in %windir%\syswow64
Unregister vbscript by running these two commands
regsvr32 /U %windir%\system32\vbscript.dll
regsvr32 /U %windir%\syswow64\vbscript.dll
Register vbscript by running these two commands
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\vbscript.dll
regsvr32 %windir%\syswow64\vbscript.dll
I have Win 7 - 64 bits
i7 - 32 Gb Ram - Gtx 980
This thread is over two years old and it might be better to visit our new support page or start a new thread.
Won’t know for sure without logs but others that have seen 2738 error codes, when it wasn’t caused by McAfee, say that this worked around issue:
