White edge on the shadow areas and very low quality and blotchy shadow

There’s a white edge on the shadow areas of the car, also very low quality and blotchy shadow. The car is a rigged asset animated using camera rail spline. Have tried multiple settings managed to reduce only 50% of the issue but unable to get completely refined shadow contact shadow.

Render wranglers please help !!

Hi @4626060,

This is actually expected, as it’s how light behaves in the real world.

This is your bounce lighting. The light is hitting the white floor, reflecting off of the car, and bouncing back onto the shadow. The areas with the blue shadows are doing the same thing, but their bounce light has been colorized by the blue paint of the car.

Here is this effect shown in a few photographs:

If you are still looking for a way around this, I would suggest darkening the area under the car further and increasing it’s roughness value. Since this is an expected effect, the way to adjust it will be through adjusting the materials in a way that naturally decreases their reflectiveness.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you but no im not talking about the indirect bounces over here. Im taking about the gap in the contact shadows and the blotchy shadows. And yeah i tired tweaking the ground plane shader, the issue is still there. Its even more noticeable when in motion. Although i have a feeling that the culprit here lumen GI.

Take a look at the lumen scene debug views under lit.
