Summary

When you turn on UEFN’s Unreal revision, you may encounter a virus detection warning from Windows Defender.

The detected virus information is as follows:

Steps to Reproduce

When the revision is turned on and the map project is opened, the issue occurs.
(When the revision is turned off and the project is opened, it functions normally.)

Expected Result

It seems that a virus is detected upon connecting to the revision.

Observed Result

A message recommending a reboot appears along with a virus detection warning from Windows Defender.

" After investigating we’ve learned that urc.exe was being incorrectly flagged and the false positive is corrected in updated versions of Microsoft Defender.

Can not open projects because of this. What is the solution?

I have a similiar problem. I started Unreal editor but when im trying to open map, it goes on 36% then it stopped and windows defender says it detect virus and it stop opening file. I dont know what to do yestarday was everything OK.

@davidpkami @RYNE_Ranger @Rggy - please keep us posted if updating Windows Defender, restarting your machine, and relaunching UEFN works for you

I just added an exclusion to Windows defender and fixed it

For anyone still experiencing this issue who have already updated Windows Defender but have not had success with the above resolutions, please try the following:

  • Close UEFN if it is open
  • navigate to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\.net
  • delete the URC folder
  • reopen UEFN (the URC folder will be recreated from scratch) and try again to open the project
