When is your game's FPS considered too low?

I know this is a general question but I am just trying to get a sense of what a good FPS sweet spot is for optimizing a game. I am aware there are a lot of factors other than FPS but I thought this might be a good starting point for understanding.

For example: I am developing on a high end machine and I don’t like if my frames drop below 80fps in editor because that tells me lower tier machines might run below 60fps but I am wondering if that is the right way to think since I am also developing in what I assume is 4k resolution with scalability at epic. (this is a fairly graphic intense game)

Is this how I should be approaching it? How do you all approach this?

Package the game and test on various hardware semi regularly. If you have an older gaming PC or laptop, it’s great for that.

Thanks that’s a good thought. Have yet to package my game once so will look into that.

@BeefyViking,
I’d say for a sweet spot, 60 isn’t too bad. I’d probably personally do some testing at 30, maybe, but 30 would definitely be the lowest I would go. Since going higher really just increases the information and frames, there’s definitely no harm in doing higher, you’re definitely going to reap the benefits of what you sow, but I’d also allow a bit of flexibility for machines.
I hope this helps, and good luck on your project,
