Hi, sorry for the noob question, but is CapturingReality a good program to use for asset creation for UE5? Thanks…
It really depends what sort of asset you want to create.
If it’s stuff you see around you, then sure, fire away.
If you want to make stuff that doesn’t exist or you don’t have access to, then Blender might be good.
When it comes to video game development, there are few game engines as popular or as powerful as Unreal Engine 4. Assets are an integral part of any video game, and Unreal Engine 4 is no exception. There are many programs that can be used for asset creation in Unreal Engine 4, but we’ve compiled a list of our favorites.
- Quixel Suite
Quixel Suite is a set of tools for creating and working with 3D assets, and it’s specifically designed for use with Unreal Engine 4. It includes a number of features that are essential for any asset creation workflow, such as a powerful material editor and an easy-to-use sculpting tool. Quixel Suite is also constantly being updated with new features and improvements, so it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
- 3ds Max
3ds Max is a widely used 3D modeling and animation software that’s been around for quite a while. It’s a very versatile program that can be used for everything from creating low-poly assets to complex character animations. While it’s not specifically designed for use with Unreal Engine 4, it’s still a very popular choice among many developers.
- Maya
Maya is another widely used 3D modeling and animation software that’s very popular among game developers. It has a lot of features that make it ideal for creating game assets, such as a comprehensive set of modeling and texturing tools. Maya is also very extensible, so there are many plugins and add-ons available that can further improve your workflow.
- Blender
Blender is a free and open-source 3D modeling and animation software that’s become very popular in recent years. It has a large user base and a very active community that’s always developing new features and improvements. While Blender isn’t specifically designed for use with Unreal Engine 4, it can still be used for creating high-quality game assets.
- Substance Painter
Substance Painter is a texture painting software that’s specifically designed for use with 3D assets. It includes a number of features that make it very well suited for creating textures for game assets, such as a comprehensive set of brushes and a powerful node-based material editor. Substance Painter is also constantly being updated with new features and improvements, so it’s definitely worth checking out.
Thanks for the input Poojashrma,
I feel like the new in-editor modeling tools should also be mentioned! (Doing everything in-editor feels good for flow + I’m really familiar with 3D viewport navigation in UE)
RealityCapture / Capturing Reality was acquired by Epic, so it is at the top of my list when thinking about photogrammetry software. (Feels like this adds a good aspect of stability and high potential for future interoperability/pipeline/workflow implementations)
Cheers
