You’re comparing apples to oranges.
Nah i just want know the performance for new hardware these days
Can core i9 or amd threadripper load few gb projects in a few mins
Or does still take 20 30mins to open large city maps even with low settings in viewport
Now we talkin’, some details. While you wait for an answer, have a look at some benchmarks:
There is a benchmark out there for opening the very resource hungry Kite Demo.
To answer directly. Faster machine will load it faster, yes. Have a look at some data:
But loading times will not decrease two-fold if you throw twice as powerful machine at it. The process is nuanced with numerous factors - hence my initial fruity comment.
Thanks ive read this before. I just cant find a benchmark for somebody in viewport trying to reopen a few gb project with i9s and latest amd
What do you mean by ‘few gb’? The whole project, just one map, ?.. Because you don’t open the whole thing in one go.
Well yea, when reopening 3rd 4th time a project like that kite demo, with an i9 how long would it take to open?
Once the shaders have compiled, open any project always takes the same amount of time, unless you set the default map to something with a lot of content.
So even a 14core cpu
64gb ram
3070
Would take 30 min to open kite demo? Even after 3rd 4th time?
No. 10 seconds.
havent opened the kite demo.
My project is about 10gb in size, but i have it open to a lightweight level. It takes about 10 seconds to open with these specs:
When I open my heaviest level it takes about 20 seconds to open.
But I just recently upgraded my machine. Before I had 16gb RAM and a 1060 card and it took basically the same amount of time. Maybe it was different but not enough for me to notice it.
Actually, you know what it depends on the macihine you are using,
In my case, I boot ue4.26 from an SSD it just takes 30seconds to load it even my system is too old.
i3 4150
Maxtor Z1 SSD 240gb
Terabyte 1TB HDD
Intel HD graphics 4400
6GB ram
Same cpu on previous system?
No. I dont remember CPU on my previous system, but the CPU was weakest link on that system.
Solid State Drives are gonna make a big difference for load times.
We support legacy projects on specific hardware with old hard drives. Projects that take several minutes to open on legacy hard drives take 30 seconds or less on systems with SSDs.
Whats the wait time when adding new assets? So after download e.g 300mb 3d mesh with 4gb project they show up instantaneosly or is there mins before can activate viewport preview play button?
Please respond, ty all the feedback thus far
Pretty much instant. The first time shaders may need to compile. If its 2000+ shaders maybe it takes 10-30 seconds or so. But the viewport still runs while compiling, just a bit laggy.
