What is the status of the fix for "Dataflow Material Assignment seems to have broken in 5.6"?

This question was created in reference to: [Dataflow Material Assignment seems to have broken in [Content removed]

Hi there,

This is just a quick check-in query as to what things are looking like on Epic’s end regarding the referenced question and the associated JIRA Unreal Engine Issues and Bug Tracker (UE\-306177) (which doesn’t seem to be publicly accessible yet).

Our artists are getting a tad antsy! :joy:

Cheers,

Josh

Hello [mention removed]

Thank you for reaching out.

I believe Epic was on recess when I made the report.

The accumulated work would justify a slower pace on the reporting, but I’ll reach out in case this slipped through the cracks.

I’ll let you know.

All the best,

Hello [mention removed]

I’m still waiting for an update to the reported issue, but I might have found a workaround, so I wanted to share in case it helps to unblock you:

Could you select your GeometryCollection and, in the Details tab, find the Property ChaosPhysics>Rendering>CustomRendererType, enable it, and set it to None?

[Image Removed]Let me know if this makes your GC display the correct material.

I suspect the issue might lie within the custom renderer GeometryCollectionRootProxyRenderer, introduced in 5.5, but set as the default on 5.6.

Heya Rafael,

Our Artists have reported that this workaround fixes the issue.

Thank you so much for your help!

Cheers,

Josh.

Hello [mention removed]

Thank you for marking my reply as Best Answer.

I haven’t received an update regarding that JIRA report yet.

Since your original request for this case is for information on that, I’ll keep the case open - unless you are satisfied with the workaround and tell me to close it.

Heya Rafael,

I think anyone who specifically wants further information on the fix for the issue in the renderer could open a new question referencing this one or the other one.

My personal request is fulfilled as the workaround you’ve given me supersedes my interest in progress towards a fix of the renderer.

Cheers,

Josh
