What is the best 3d software for UE4?

I am using 3DS MAX AND SKETCH UP FOR MY ARCH AND INTERIOR PROJECT, DO I NEED TO MAKE THE MODEL TO MESH AND THEN EXPORT TO FBX? ALSO U FOUND DIFFICULTLY TO EXPORT FROM AKETCH UP MODEL TO FBX AS IT WILL BECOME A SOLID MODLE IN UR4

There is no such thing my friend. Decide which 3d software package you are comfortable with and give it a go!.

He STANARCH,

If you have access to 3Ds Max I would recommend using it over Sketchup for anything that you plan to bring into the engine. At this point Sketchup’s fbx export is not ideal, however our developers are looking into this issue. Sketchup is still very useful for quickly mocking up a model or even an entire level for prototyping.

That being said, the artist here at Epic use a mix of either 3Ds Max or Maya. Many indie developers and hobbyist use Blender which is free to use. Like hikmayan57 said, it really depends on what program you prefer.

Thanks, TJ

THz, TJ, one more question, does UR4 is counting each mesh object in 3ds max? eg: in a interior space, wall, window, door and floor is separated object when I build the model, does UR4 can recognize there are 4 different object and 4 different material? if in my sense, there are many objects from space to furniture etc. do I need to import them separate?

As far as the building itself, it would be more efficient to merge the objects that won’t need physics or movement (walls, floor, etc) on import then set up the different materials through Material Elements.

As far as the the rest of your objects, if they are going to move or be effected by physics I would suggest treating them as props and Import them separately.

Here is some more info on Material Elements and materials in general, please take a look through the links below.

I would certainly work in 3DS Max or Maya, as they handle texturing/UV layouts much, much better than Sketchup does. They’re also all around more powerful, and considered the industry standards for 3D Modeling . The FBX exporter for Sketchup also needs a ton of work, where FBX is an Autodesk standard.
