Weirdness with Visual Studio 2017

Hey everyone,

It seems in the last couple of months, I have been getting hit with a slew of IDE related issues; now I’m getting a very strange issue indeed, and am wondering if this happens to anyone else with VS 2017, or any other version for that matter.

Out of the blue, the Tab key no longer ‘works’. That is to say, weirdly, characters (I default to 4 spaces for a tab), are ‘inserted’ but don’t affect the document. It will show that the line has changed, and you must make an Undo action 4 times for each tab entered, but the document doesn’t make the format.

The only fix I’ve found is to completely reset all options to default, and then resetting them, which take a very long time. It is not the keyboard…

It is something that happens suddenly, one minute it’s working, then the next, this strange behavior. Restarting VS has no effect, deleting the .vs has no effect. It is too general of a term to google and find useful answers. I use a licensed version of VS 2017 Pro, right now for me using a community version is not going to be possible. The issue only just started a couple of weeks ago, so something weird is going on.

If anybody has any idea on what could be happening, man, I can’t tell you how grateful I would be. I might even frame a picture of your avatar and put it on the wall, so that I could pay homage to you every day.

Thanks for any help - I’m at my wits end with this piece of junk!

So it looks like I got lucky and noticed that this setting is somehow getting set to checked, and for manual tabbing, should be unchecked:

I’m not sure why this setting is suddenly changing, and I’m not sure what the default is, regardless, unchecking this seems to fix the issue, if this happens to anyone else.
