I’m still very much learning UE. I may not get all the terminology right, unfortunately. Bear with me.
Here’s a gif of what I’m getting when I launch my app on the Quest:
This is a pretty stock project started using the VR template. The only thing I added was the Mannequin folder from the top down template, and added the character you see to play around with a few things.
When I launch it on the PC (desktop app), everything is fine. The hands look like they should for the VR template and the character looks fine. But when I launch it on my quest, the hands are black with that weird red color (which, honestly, looks pretty cool), and the character has this green shimmer weaving in and out.
If I start another fresh VR template project, hands are looking back to normal.
Anyone know how to fix this/what caused it? This is a throwaway project so I can just start over, but I’d like to learn from the experience in case this kind of thing happens in a project down the road where I can’t just easily start from scratch.
I’ve experimented a bit more. It happens whenever I attach a skeletal mesh to an pawn or character dropped into the scene. Again, though, it ONLY happens if I run it in VR. I wonder if it’s something in the VR-only blueprints for the template that’s assuming you would never do that and messing with the meshes.
I am getting the same thing, it seems to be intermittent for me though. I am also using the VR template. Sometimes a packaged project on Quest the hands go black like yours and sometimes cubes with a basic texture material go black. Sometimes they are all fine as well though!
Thanks for the links. I searched and had no luck. FWIW, I created a blank template project and was able to have two skeletal meshes in it just fine even when compiled out for the Quest. No specific VR support built in yet, though.
Just wanted to check back in on this and say it’s a 4.23 bug that went away in 4.24.
I was reminded of this because somehow I accidentally created a 4.23 project and ran into it again and was so confused by why it was happening. I created several projects and it happened in them all. I finally noticed the version number and upgraded those projects to 4.24 and the problem went away. And I haven’t seen it in the main 4.24 project I’ve been using.
