Weird material reflections and shading

They looked fine in 4.11 I think the latter pic has something to do with SSR.

Can you provide any screenshot comparisons from your 4.11 to 4.12 issue from your scene?

Right now, when doing my own comparison scenes I’m only seeing 1 bug our of the two reported here. The material sphere preview has a harder edge, but I’ve not seen this affect the materials applied in the scene.

If you’re having issues with your reflections you may want to check that you’ve set your Engine Scalability to be EPIC. If this does not help please recreate a scene similar to what I have here to better show the reflections issues you’re having along with any detailed repro steps needed to test differences between 4.11 and 4.12.

My material is a simple 0.5 constant plugged into Base Color and Metallic, and the Roughness is a Constant 0.

I’ve entered a bug for the material previews reflections being an issue with UE-30251. It’s already been fixed with our latest internal build of 4.13. You can clearly see the issue in the Reflections by enabling this view in the preview window of the material, but this will have no effect on the material assigned in the scene.

Ignore the discoloring, that’s SSR messing up like always.

I want to note that this project was migrated from 4.11 to 4.12 and it’s using static lights.

I’m still not sure what I’m supposed to be seeing here. Can you please describe in detail what’s the difference between the image above and this one? Aside from the darkened bar, which is present in both images. Please reproduce in a blank scene if possible. If it’s only in your scene there may be something that is set up incorrectly or something that I would not likely be able to reproduce.

If you reproduce in a blank scene please include a sample project with this or describe the steps to recreate the issue.
