Weird flickering on surfaces?

Hi everyone!

I recently started to work on some lighting for my proto level, and wanted to not use Lumen - however, I am getting this horrible graphical issue with weird splotches and moving black ant like shadows - I disabled lumen, screen space and deleted all PP volumes, but the issue persists.

I never experienced this before - Lumen does fix it, and it gets rid of the ant shadows, but I really want to understand what this is and what is causing the issue.

Here is an example video:

I tested my project on my normal machine (RTX 3070, 32GB Ram, 8 GB Gpu) and another pc (Geforce 1660 Ti 16 GB Ram, 6 GB GPU)
but both have the rendering issue. Building also does not fix it - so far, the only thing I noticed that reduced the shadow ants is putting the screen percentage to 200%, but setting Vysnc or AA to higher values does not help.

The shadow ants appear on the Unreal Engine Cubes that I used for blockouts and my own meshes, with or without textures.

Could someone help me out here?

No idea what is happening here?

partially looks like an ao issues, but also more like a distance field shadow thing. check the console for parameters and see if you can tweak something that fixes it.

i’m guessing tho. no clue what it really is. never seen that glitch.

Thank you! I am pretty new to this, do you happen to know what kind of console commands I could try?

Just leaving this here: the issue was caused by the skylight in dynamic mode. Seems to be an issue with the dynamic distance field, but I was not able to fix it so far.

Is this UE4?

Nope, it is UE 5.3.2 (and 5.5.3 as well)
