VR template broken by default

when one tries to add a new static mesh as a child of a motion controller of the VR template pawn, the motion controllers will not be tracked anymore and will be invisible.
When adding a skeletal mesh, everything works.

Please help me or report this bug, it seems non intentional and makes me wanna pull my hair out

Do you have collision enabled on the static mesh youre adding as a child to the motioncontroller?
