When I preview a scene in a DK2 and hit Escape to close the preview, I see a short, bright flash in the HMD. It’s a very unpleasant experience, I hope it can be fixed somehow. Let me know if you need more info or can’t reproduce this issue.
Hello ,
I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.
Quick questions:
- What version of the engine are you using?
- Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project with no assets from the project that is having issues?
- When you say that there is a bright flash, are you referring to the way that the oculus screen turns off?
- Has this issue always occurred with your oculus rift?
- Are you using direct rift or extended mode?
Well this is strange. I’ve only recently noticed this. But going back to some of the demos I tried earlier, all of them seem to have this issue. Maybe this is actually a problem with the Oculus itself and not the engine.
There is one game that I tried, which does not have this issue. Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR on Steam. I think it uses a custom engine. When I quit the game, it quickly fades to black, before terminating. Maybe this is a workaround for the flashing problem? Do you not experience any white flashes?
- 4.7.5
- Yes.
- Yes.
- See above.
- Direct.
EDIT: An other one that doesn’t flash is Time Rifters (Demo), also on Steam. This one also quickly fades to black before terminating.
Hello ,
I was able to reproduce this issue on our end. After speaking with a developer we have come to the conclusion that this issue is not produced by our engine and that it is a function of the device itself when the screen is turned off. The reason a black screen fixes it is because it’s taking random bits of the back buffer and displaying them. So, if you have a white screen or a light screen, that’s the majority of what you’ll see. If you have something black, it’s going to be black on black, but you can’t see that. I hope that this information helps.
Make it a great day
Cool. Thanks!
