Vive motion Controllers in first person template

Hello Epic, I am trying to incorporate Vive motion controllers into the first person template. I can get it working fine in a blank template scene, but in the fps one I can’t figure out how or where to add the controller component so that they don’t inherit the head rotations. Any tips on how to do this?
What I want to do is have the motion controllers working normally, and then have the ability to press the thumbpad and move forward in the direction you are looking. I have this working on an xbox contoller, but I can’t seem to find options for the Vive controllers in the Binding options in project settings/input. Is there another way to map these controls to the Vive controllers? I do find options in blueprints but I’m not sure how to set that up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
