Visual Studio 2017 installed, but can't create new C++ project

Despite having Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition installed, the Unreal Project Browser is not letting be create a new C++ project. Starting the project browser, select New Project and C++ tab, there is a message at the bottom stating No compiler was found. In order to use C+ template, you must first install Visual Stdio 2017. The Create Project button is disabled.

Prior to this it worked fine, however I recently installed and then uninstalled the Visual Studio 2017 15.7 Preview release and the problem started after that.
