Visibility managemente in USD Stage Actor

Working with a big USDStageActor is complicated due to visibility management. We are importing “simple” environments from usd files through the USDStageActor. However, when the artist wants to hide a section of the environment (an xform and all of its children) the only way we find possible is to hide all the mesh prims under that xform prim, which is complicated to do and impossible to maintain. Is there a way to fix that or another way to achieve that result?

We were trying to create a custom sequencer track to implement that behavior, though we haven’t finished it yet.

This specially complicated when that visibility needs to be animated in a level sequence.

Thanks!

Steps to Reproduce
Add a USDStageActor in a level that contains hierarchical Xform Prims.

Try to hide one of the parent Xform Prims.

Children meshes are still visible.

Hi Diego,

I have created an issue, UE-396824, that you can track from our website. Note that it may take some time before the link becomes operational.

Thanks.

Thanks Jean-Luc!

We have created a specific track internally to work around this issue. So far it seems to help, but we haven’t tested extensibly yet.

Let me know if you would be interested in us sharing the code.

Thanks!

Hi Diego,

Yes, I am interested by what you did to work around the issue. Thanks for asking.

You can either create a PR on github or upload a zip. Whatever is more convenient to you.

Jean-Luc
