Using already created materials inside a layered one

Hi everyone.

I’ve been testing materials and sometimes I end up with some complicated ones in terms of construction.
After a few I decided that I could try to paint them in a landscape but it seems that - or I just can’t find a way to - I cannot make a material with links to other materials or their instances.
Since I see no point in copying the whole construction into a layered one my question is: is there a way to do the layered one with links to the already made?

I find it weird that I can’t find a way but I would even change the way the landscape is painted. You should be able to create the layers there and add the materials to that layer. In that way you could change materials if you were not happy with that one.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has already been debated. I couldn’t find any besides the regular “add textures to a layered material and build the material with them”.

You can create material functions for each layer, and drag & drop them to your final Layered-Material. You can’t put materials inside materials but you can put material functions inside a material

Thanks Praglik, I’ll take a look into that.

It would be easier if you could add new layers directly in the landscape painting tool but hey, we have to work with what we got.
